About this deal

The T3 will ignore retune events for transmitters that it cannot receive or are not currently tuned. And while modern TVs will connect to Freeview directly, they’re not always easy to use. Sometimes the TV Guide is hidden behind a screen of apps and it can be impossible to find the channels you actually want to watch. And there’s no guarantee the manufacturer will keep updating them - so you might wake up one day and find the smart TV you bought is suddenly dumb. While these looked spectacular, those trials come and go, and while you can’t even watch the archived versions of Blue Planet IIand Dynastiesin 4K, other BBC 4K content is sometimes added (such as the recent Doctor Who new year special in 4K).

One feature that’s been sorely missing on the 3 series was global EPG search, something that’s been available on other Freeview boxes. When padding was set to Manual a recording could fail to start if it was triggered before the hard drive was initialised. The T3-R is 4K and HDR – that’s to say, HDR10 and HLG – ready, although the catch is that there’s no 4K carried over the air on the Freeview platform. It will play 4K from YouTube and BBC iPlayer test streams, however. Audio compatibility covers Dolby Digital Plus and stereo.Despite earlier hopes that ITVX will become available on the popular Manhattan T3 and Manhattan T3-R Freeview Play boxes from day 1, we’re told that’s no longer the case. Manhattan T3-R However, it wasn’t possible to search within the regular EPG guide itself – to find out, for example, when a specific show is on and on which over-the-air channel.

Connecting the T3-R to the internet is essential for using its FreeviewPlay and streaming features, and that can be done either with an Ethernet cable (connected directly to your router or via a Powerline Adapter) or via WiFi (802b/g/n). If your device is located far away from your router, you might want to look into a WiFi range booster. With Freeview Play, you get the normal EPG, which you can use to switch between “live” shows – but you can also use that same guide to jump directly into streaming apps like BBC iPlayer, to watch past programmes on-demand. After pressing the TEXT button on BBC channels when the internet was connected the system could stop responding to the directional or number buttons until the channel was changed. The same can be said about Virgin Media’s Stream box, with BT TV’s 4K Pro Box being the only exception – with the ability to stream AND record from those streamed channels. For several weeks leading up to the discontinuation, consumers noticed that the T3-R had become increasingly difficult to find in online retail stores. This scarcity was a result of the device reaching the end of its retail life cycle. The same goes for the internet-based streaming shows (which we’ll touch upon in a second) – those have nothing to do with the Freeview signal, and they look excellent on the T3-R. Once you have everything connected, both Freeview and Freeview Play are free to watch, without any monthly subscriptions (though you would still need to pay the TV Licence in most cases). Win: The HUMAX Aura offers a variety of additional features to enhance your TV viewing experience. It includes built-in Chromecast functionality, allowing you to cast content from your smartphone, tablet, or computer directly to your TV. This opens up a world of streaming possibilities and lets you enjoy a wide range of apps and content on the big screen. Additionally, the Aura supports 4K Ultra HD resolution and HDR (High Dynamic Range) for stunning picture quality.
