About this deal

As the number of dice increases with each bid, there will inevitably come a time when the bid is too high and someone will say Dudo. In this case the player announces Dudo (pronounced Doudo, which means “I doubt”) and all players reveal their dice.

There is no board, no setting up and no complicated rules, so this makes the ideal after dinner or travel game. Each player starts having five dice and a cup, which is used for shaking the dice and concealing the dice from the other players. Every year Paul Lamond host the Perudo Championships in London, where fans of the game are able to battle it out to be crowned World Perudo Champion. Turning back to the table, I was delighted to see exactly what I had hoped for – one of the men offering me a plastic cup with five dice in it. If the accusation is correct, the accused player loses 1 die which will be placed under the cup lid.I won’t lie, Bonn and I felt slightly nervous when we sat down to try and play Perudo for the first time after reading all the rules. Behaviour is important, so each game is different depending on the group and I have enjoyed games with young cousins as much as with cerebral graduates of Game Theory. The orange player plays last, and the previous players have raised the bid, announcing nine fives and ten fives. The rumour begins that in 1532, when Pizarro and his conquistadors ‘conquered’ large parts of South America including Peru, that they held captive the Sapa Inca, Atahualpa. For example, a player with two fours, two Pacos and a five actually has four fours or three fives (or two of the values he has not on his non Paco dice).

The word is a combination of the word ‘dudo’ (meaning ‘I doubt’ in Spanish which was also an early name for the game), and Peru – a name created when the game became commercial and thereby became popularly known as.

If the player only had one die, then the next time they fall to having only one die will not trigger another Palifico round. We’re also slightly dreading my mum playing with us – as previous experience playing cards with her suggests she might be a bit of a Perudo demon!

matching colours, numbers, adding, subtracting, towers, making shaky shaky noises, putting them into and out of the bag……. From this vast and popular collection of products, there has been one stand-out and consistent best-seller that you can’t seem to get enough of, our Luxury Perudo Sets. Spot on also known as "calza" in some versions, the player claims that the previous bidder's bid is exactly right.

I’ve not played any dice games before, but playing felt quite similar to card games in may ways and playing against people that you don’t know I expect has a very different vibe to it.

Perudo (meaning Dice of the Andes) is described as “the classic game of liar dice” and it is very much a skilful game of guesswork, bluff and luck. So, if someone bids for 8 threes, it is based on the prediction that there will be at least 8 dice around the table with a value of either three or one. Then a designated player states how many of one type of dice are under all of the dice on the table… 1s are ‘wild’ meaning they can be anything – key to keep in mind for a winning strategy. Perudo is an auction game in which players secretly roll dice and bet on the total number of dice with a certain value. If the bid was right, the player who doubted loses a die, otherwise the player who made the wrong bid loses a die.
