Because as they pretend to be a couple, they struggle to remember why dating for real was a bad idea to begin with . . . Afia is masterful at capturing Harlem in the twenties, sweeping the reader away to the glamour. The fashion, the language, the clubs - her worldbuilding is lush, while at the same time authentic. I don't know that much about this period of history, but I never doubted a single detail of this amazing book. I LOVED this book!
