About this deal

Internal filters I did not recommend on purpose, because they are suitable for very few people. And they’re usually not the best at keeping the tank cycled. The Cascade 1500 would be perfect for most 75-gallon setups. It has a flow rate of 350 GPH which can be enough for a decent water circulation – a turnover of 4.7 times per hour.

Because of this and my bitter experience as a young fishkeeper, I recommend a filter that’s actually rated for up to 40 US gallons. To replace the filters, start by turning off the power to the unit and disconnecting it from the aquarium. Then, open up the canister lid and remove all of the old filter media. You can dispose of it or save it to use as seed media for new filters (more on that later). However, if you have the budget for it – you should absolutely go for the Cascade 1500, as it is way worth it in the long run. Take a look at the best canister filters for the gallon capacity of your fish tank: 1. Optimal Canister Filters for 125-Gallon or Larger Fish Tanks (473 Liters)Canister filters are larger than HOB and sponge filters, and so need maintenance every couple of month. This is because it takes a lot of time for them to get dirty. Smaller filters like the HOB and sponge ones require less work each cleaning session but need more frequent cleaning sessions to remain efficient. The sound conclusion If you get the 400 GPH version and are irritated by humming noises, you better have your aquarium in your basement. The more media a canister filter can hold – the better it is at preventing deadly ammonia spikes in the aquarium water.

Below in this article, you can find a link to my full review of this product (not only concerning loudness). 2. Penn Plax Cascade (xxxx) Series Another thing that I should mention here is the instructions for setting an Eheim filter up and priming it. As harsh as it might sound, the instructions are complete garbage. Worry not though.Anyway, with these aquarium filters, you have the added benefit of huge media trays for your filter media of choice. I have estimated that the Eheim 2211 has a flow rate of about 45 GPH, which is not to be confused with its pump output GPH. Namely, the fish I keep and the Gallon Per Hour (GPH) flow rate that my new filter is able to pump.

Fluval 207 Canister Aquarium Filter | External Filtration

As these water tanks are notably shorter in height your fish will have less space to swim up and down. These filters are not a good long-term investment, as you’d find yourself paying for a new one over and over again. I have a planted 150 gallon tank with Dwarf Gourami’s and community fish. I am using two Cascahe Elite 1500’s and does not clean good. Could I do better with 2 Fluval FX4’s? My cabinet wont work well with the taller FX6. They have plenty of room to house beneficial bacteria which is essential for a stable biofilter in the aquarium. I think it should be mentioned that during the initial priming these are louder than the other canister models listed here. So don’t panic if the filter’s humming at first. It will likely pass in a matter of hours.
