I’ve never been one clever enough for beautiful needlecraft, but I certainly feel as though I’ve learned a lot about Louisa Pesel and her exquisite contribution to this art. The main character is Violet Speedwell and the era is the 1930’s, the setting is principally beautiful Winchester and much of the focus is on the cathedral. In the formal analysis of the variables' semantics and process state, the term single threading can be used differently to mean "backtracking within a single thread", which is common in the functional programming community. Sometimes she used cigarettes as punctuation, but they made her giddy rather than settling her as tea did. The ending of the book is lovely and optimistic albeit with the spectre of Hitler hanging over the world.The characters were rather one-dimensional and I failed to engage, even with Violet whose situation in life should have moved me more.
