About this deal

You’d better believe there’ll be new models – there’s a massive new launch set on the way – and we might be biased, but we think it’s the best Warhammer box ever. In place of a Primaris Lieutenant and a Royal Warden, you get a Primaris Captain and a Necron Overlord, both representing senior ranks within their Faction. If you’re coming to the game for the first time, probably stick with one of the set Dynasties for now until you have a better foundation for how these various rules interact. As part of the Indomitus Crusade, these Primaris Marines have been armed and equipped not to hold back the tide of Mankind’s enemies, but to take the fight to them and ultimately reclaim the Imperial worlds lost to the emergence of the Great Rift. Wielding master-crafted power swords, storm shields and heavy bolt pistols, they’re no-nonsense damage dealers and among the toughest, most resilient units in the entire Space Marines roster!

The box is just an outside box and an inside tray, just a bigger version of the Warhammer 40,000 Ed9: Recruit Edition set. This bad boy has even more ‘kapow’ than the classic volkite pistol – ask any fan of the Horus Heresy and they’ll tell you what you have to look forward to. If you like the idea of undying powerful megalomaniacal cyber-skeletons and giant arachnid robots this army is going to be your jam.

The rule book is slightly longer (assembly guides for the extra models) and accessories are the same as the previous box but the models you get go up a level. Perfect For You If: You’re after a more immersive learning experience, complete with a dedicated gaming board and battlefield scenery. This boxed set is for the fans, and a fitting way to leap into the new edition for anyone who loves Warhammer 40,000.

Personally, as I have the paints, I’ll skip these as I expect those models to be released as separate “easy to build” kits of just the 3 models in each. As far as the Warhammer 40,000 range goes, Space Marines and Necrons are probably the most beginner-friendly when it comes to painting. Miniatures companies have an unfortunate tendency to try too hard to be cool and edgy in their product naming, and that can be very confusing to new and prospective hobbyists. If you’re new to the army but not to Warhammer 40,000 this would probably be something to look at as well. There are improvements like this everywhere – in turn structure, army selection, morale, terrain, missions, the ways in which characters interact with units, and more. From tomorrow, we will begin taking an in-depth look at all the major changes and faction rules exclusively here on Warhammer Community – as well as investigating the units in the absolutely stacked launch box. This is the Same as Elite Edition but you get a hardback (180-page) rulebook and some terrain (and six fewer dice, probably to save costs).
