If that was there plan, then it works extremely well, establishing Amber Midthunder's ( Legion, Banshee and The Ice Road) undervalued but also unproven skills as a hunter, particularly alongside her respected warrior brother, finding herself the only one of her tribe aware of something otherworldly in their midst, and thus forced to face the creature alone.
