About this deal

Reminiscent of peaches and cream on the nose and playing the part again on the palate, this Moscato is brimming with ripe, rich stonefruit from pleasing start to fruit-laden finish. We've gathered some of the best Moscato wine brands on the market to review based on flavor profiles, food pairing capabilities, and overall value. The Moscato d’Asti DOCG terroir (which coincides with that of its ‘siblings’ Asti DOCG and Asti Secco DOCG) includes 51 municipalities straddling the provinces of Cuneo (with the most vineyards), Asti and Alessandria, in the Italian region of Piedmont.

Note the sugar, acidity, tannins, and alcohol content when first tasting, then move on to tasting notes (fruit, spice, wood) and finally the finish. The frizzante (semi-sparkling) wine is known for its perfume-like fragrance, light-body, low alcohol content, and dazzling fruit-forward profile with a welcoming sweet factor. In the past it was made only by small growers, who would make Moscato d’Asti for their family and friends; an everyday wine to drink with a snack in the fields, or dip your bread into for breakfast.Serve frizzante and sparkling moscato well chilled, still moscato at about 50 degrees Fahrenheit, and fortified dessert moscato at cellar temperature (60 to 70 degrees ).

It’s a “grape-wine” that preserves the full fragrance of the grape type involved and produces a product that is essentially halfway between drinking the fruit and the wine. In local Piedmontese tradition, the term ‘sorì’ refers to a very steep piece of land, usually with a gradient of more than 40%.Today, the must is transferred into pressurised stainless-steel tanks before fermentation, where the sugars are partially fermented until the alcohol content reaches around 5. Expect vibrant aromas to include honeysuckle, tangerine, and ripe peach along with candied citrus on the palate with a decent dose of supporting stone fruit, well-managed acidity, and very food-friendly nature. Often associated with introducing the world to "White Zin," Sutter Home has a knack for producing sweet-themed, crowd-pleasing wine. Around three to five times more hours or labour are needed to manage these plots, compared to those situated on the plain or in the low hills. Admittedly, this is one of the pricier Moscatos on our "top picks" list, yet once you've tasted what Ceretto can do with the Moscato grape we think you'll see why.

Moscato "is the Italian word for the muscat family of grapes, and frequently refers to a lightly sparkling, low-alcohol sweet white wine. Easy to find with its bright blue bottle, the Ecco Domani Moscato is a sweet treat for those looking for a refreshing white wine with a slight effervescence, semi-sweet style and lower on the alcohol than your typical white wine. With the palate profile packing D'Anjou pear and red apple nuances, the fizzy, fruit-forward themes run well balanced from the semi-sweet start to fairly, full finish.Wines are often dry to taste, but since the aromatics are so sweet and fruity your brain tricks you into thinking they’re sweet. With flavors of citrus, stone fruit, and orange blossom, moscato d'Asti is a crowd favorite with new and seasoned wine drinkers alike.

The sweet white wine is delicious with apple desserts, meringue pies, hazelnut desserts, and brunch dishes like pancakes and coffee cake. The most striking landscapes are among the hills around Santo Stefano Belbo in Cuneo, where Moscato vines cling to spectacular amphitheatres of stone terraces, winding among the tortuous curves of the steep slopes; then around Calosso in Asti, or on the rolling hills between Mango and Castiglione Tinella: this is perhaps Moscato’s most beautiful terroir landscape.

Although authentic moscato d'Asti and Asti spumante (two popular types of moscato wine) can only be made in Piedmont, Italy, muscat grapes are grown and used to make wine around the world.
