About this deal

Mouthfeel: It has an odd tartness which is misplaced. There is a moderate bitterness which comes across as overcooked herbs; it is like eating a bay leaf that has been left in the pan for too long. Drinkability is low. While this one seemed to have promise, with a great, if unoriginal name, Hoppy Christmas, but one look at the bottom of the can seems to show that the ale is five months old. I don't know if that can be, but it tastes like it is five months old. It looked nice and golden in the glass but it was all downhill from there. Nothing about this stale ale says Christmas. If I didn't need its immunizing properties, it might have been a drain pour.

This product is available at a reduced price for Equity Punk Investors (Equity Punk discount applies). Slightly hazy rose gold color with a substantial and lasting off white head and some nice lacing. The aroma is pineapple, papaya and hints of caramel malt and pine. Taste follows he aroma. Nice bitterness of darker orange rind and grassy/pine notes. Plenty of malt and caramel to balance but with no sweetness. Finish is fairly short. Picture this. It’s December. Trees now live inside the house. You remember Michael Bublé exists. And our beers are hiding behind tiny numbered doors. Embrace the festive build up with our objectively massive advent calendar. A mix of stone cold classics, new brews, collaborations and festive one-offs, it’ll ruin you for other advent calendars. Gift it. Pretend you’re going to gift it and keep it for yourself. Have a very hoppy Christmas.Appearance: The body is an indian summer gold color with a moderate haze. The head is large, fluffy, and white. It has good head retention. There are some cobwebs of lacing. I think I know what they were blaring over the nuke plant's emergency loudspeakers that they have all over the county. It sounded like they were saying not to drink the eggnog. Brains brains. All those people going nuts and fires and civil unrest over eggnog? I'm going to continue to stay indoors and drink my BrewDog. Brains brains.

Rate It Beer Geek Stats | Print Shelf Talker From: BrewDog Scotland, United Kingdom Style: American IPA Pours out to a medium burnt orange, forming a solid off white head with very good retention and lacing. Predominant peach in the nose, followed by mango and pineapple. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and chewy. Very subtle but interesting malt flavors going on here which support the fruit nose nicely. Bitterness is medium-light, easy to drink. Cleanly fermented, no off flavors or aromas. Carbonation is medium, ~2.5 carbs. Finishes quite clean (for the style) with a well balanced bitterness.

I could not recommend this brew based on this sample. I would be willing to give it another a shot if I knew it was fresh. This is what was wrong with the Costco beer advent calendar my sister used to buy for me - everything in those was very old and few of them were still OK. Based just on this one I probably won't buy any of these again (I bought one for my son and one for my son in law too). Aroma: White pepper comes through briefly, then cooked cabbage. Old mowed wildgrass comes through on the nose. It isn't very appealing.
