About this deal

They feel really sturdy – my husband even ended up sleeping on one for a night, during a bed-hopping evening with the kids – you know the kind. I’m 5’8″, so you can get an idea for the length of the bunk bed in the photo above. The upper bed is only 78 cm above the ground, so it is easy to get in and out. This is low enough to fit into any tent.

Note that you still have plenty of storage space underneath this bunk cot, to store your camping stuff. This is one of the main advantages of sleeping on cots in tents, apart from comfort of course. Yes I highly recommend the Hi Gear Duo bunk! The bunk beds are portable, practical, convenient, durable and strong. Our kids loved them and took it in turns each night to sleep on the top bunk. They slept really well in the bunk beds, better than they have slept anywhere EVER before – sometimes even until 10am (!) in the morning (although this was also to do with the busy, outdoor, late-night camping lifestyle).

Note that the legs are bars and they are with plastic caps, so this is a floor friendly design and you can use this bunk cot in a floored family camping tent. Regarding the price, it is simply incredible for such a set. The links below will show you the current prices as of the moment of reading the text. The Hi Gear Duo Bunk Bed camp beds also seemed like they would be super handy for future trips where we might need to put them to bed in a smaller space than usual. The camping bunk beds for kids were one of the new-equipment successes of our holiday, let me tell you why… The picture below shows its zippered carry bag which has two carry handles and the dimensions printed on the side. The carry bag. Regarding the weight, it is substantial, the complete set weighs 34.8 lb (15.8 kg). But it is lighter than the Kampa Bunkie Camp Bunk Bed, you might want to compare them.

Regarding the dimensions, the beds measure 70.87 x 28.3 inches (180 x 72 x 78 cm). For a cot the width is OK, but this is short. As you probably know, most of the cots on the market are indeed built short. Note that the frame around the bed takes a few centimeters. So these are beds for short people and for kids. My daughters were 5 and 3 years old when we first bought these foldable bunk beds and as mentioned above, they were absolutely fine on them. I think if you have a child who is used to sleeping in a bed, they’d manage very well, especially with the side panel and lipped edges. If you were at all concerned, you could also separate the bunk beds and just use them as single camping beds, or keep younger children on the bottom bunk. How much do they cost?Regarding the capacity, officially this is 242 + 242 lb (110 + 110 kg). This should be fine for most of users. But see the dimensions below. There’s an awful lot of construction that goes into a setting up camp, even with an inflatable Berghaus tent. I have to say rolling things up – mattresses, sleeping bags, you name it, is my LEAST favourite part of the camping experience. I think this is partly why the Hi Gear camp bunk beds appealed to me! I like the fact there’s no faffing around with pumps, and no issues with having to deflate beds like you get with blow-up mattresses. But the folded dimensions are much better 32.7 x 12.2 x 7.1 inches (83 x 31 x 18 cm), in fact it can be described as very compact. So this is a car camping item and you would not want to carry it long distances.
