About this deal

Yes the smell most likely is the paint. From what you have said the fire has not been installed correctly in the space it is in and is getting the surrounding walls and surfaces too hot, this is also the most likely cause of the yellow blistering of your first paint (not mould). The fire is heating up the painted surfaces and causing them to discolour (yellowing) and then getting so hot the paint is blistering. The new paint you’ve used is obviously suffering from the same but the smell most likely will be because the paint is newer and being mould resistant probably has some additional contents to combat mould that may be giving off the smell under extreme heat. Surface defects and loose pointing should be filled in, with any visible signs of organic growths treated with mould remover. There's so much choice out there when it comes to paint and it can be difficult finding the right colour and finish for your home. There's also a whole range of brands to choose from including Dulux paint, Farrow & Ball colours, Valspar and our own GoodHome range. Laying down sheets around the area will catch any dirt, soot, and ash deposits as you clean the surface prior to painting, protecting your carpets or wood floors. Mask areas with tape that you don't want to be painted, and then prepare the surface of your fire surround depending on the substrate:

The variable porous structure of the surface to be painted and moisture and temperature variations during paint application and drying may cause diversity of colour Due to its expert technical knowledge of the technologies and materials available across the industry, Promain has a reputation for outstanding service among its trade and retail customers. Painting a fireplace surround isn't a complicated task, as long as you follow manufacturer instructions and application guides. Preparation is always key to painting any surface - and it certainly applies when you paint a fireplace surround. To find Ready Mixed colours, search "ready mixed" or select the Ready Mixed 'colour chart'. To see Tinted colours select a colour chart such as RAL, BS, NCS, etc. or search for a colour/hue to see available or related options. If necessary, clean the surfaces with a dry brush, mop or dust cloth after a minimum of one month after coating

Cover surfaces that are not to be treated, such as windows, natural stone or clinker-tiled surfaces and metal surfacesWhen it comes to colour, the current most popular options are white and grey paint for an ultra modern and clean look, ideal for frequently changing rooms. A paints finish will affect the overall appearance, feel, and durability of your paint, so it’s important to understand the differences to achieve your desired aesthetic. Matt paint has a non-reflective finish, chalk paint has a matt, shabby-chic finish, while eggshell paint is low-sheen and durable. Additionally, satinwood paint has a subtle sheen and is great for interior woodwork, while gloss paint is high-shine and ideal for exterior woodwork and metal surfaces. If the fireplace is active then you will need a paint to resist temperatures that are higher than a normal, decorative topcoat can handle, such as our fireplace surround paints that perform up to 300°C. Your fireplace surround will be the centrepiece of the room, but it doesn't have to stay exactly the same colour as when you first moved into your home. Stoves and open fires are messy by nature and will mark the surrounding wall with dirt and soot deposits. Repaint your fireplace surround to match your existing decor and interior design - or contrast to make it really stand out.
