About this deal

If any pieces fall to the table during cleanup, that player loses a safety certificate and passes the hook to the next player.

Additionally, when adding girders to the site these cannot be placed on worker helmets or fully on top of another girder. The cleanup hook has a handy measuring stick on it for those situations in which the highest piece isn’t clear. I expected to feel worse after watching a girder fall on a couple of injured employees, but there’s something disturbingly amusing about it too, knowing someone has to go in with the rescue hook and pry that corpse out from under the wreckage.Again, these might seem minor but really change the base game and can increase the replay value as well.

This probably isn’t something you would guess about me, but I can be a bit snobbish about stacking games. Once the active player places their building material or worker from the supply, they pass the Rescue Hook to the next player. The best worker wins – depending on the number of players, earning a certain amount of Employee of the Month awards wins the game. The production values are really high, even the box insert is perfectly formed to hold everything in place, with the worker meeples lined up like a little terracotta army. If you want to change things up, the cardboard crane can be built and placed in the middle of the starting construction. When a fallen girder is resting against both the table and still supporting weight, how do you proceed? Not only are the visuals extremely appealing but the game play is variable enough that it remains interesting even after multiple rounds. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. To keep things even more flexible, the game also comes with additional variants described in the rule book like the Foreman which allows players to substitute revealed cards for one of three they acquire at the beginning of the game, the Crane which adds an extra obstacle/stacking surface in the middle of the work site, and the Skyscraper in which the whole work site in built inside the actual box of the game!

Every time you have an accident on site and a piece of equipment falls to the table, you lose a safety certificate. Once the Boss Rita card is revealed from the Instruction deck, active players can now gain Employee of the Month Certificates by placing their building material at the highest point of the Job Site. And then we’d bicker, because while stacking is obviously central to a stacking game, it’s the thing behind the stacking that matters. I love the aspect of the unknown in Men at Work, and even as someone who normally likes to have more control in games and doesn’t enjoy high amounts of luck in games, it totally works here for me. On their turn each player turns over the top card of the construction deck and places it next to the deck, adding to the discard pile.If you ever played something like Rhino Hero, or built a house of cards, and enjoy creating these teetering erections, you’re really going to like Men At Work. If the piece which succumbs to gravity’s irresistible pull hits the table, the player who caused it to happen loses one of their safety certificates. The hook I mentioned above is for hooking fallen meeples and pieces out from under the construction, which turns into a part of the game itself. The cleanup aspect of the game is also pretty fun; it’s a different challenge trying to fish that brick out of the somewhat collapsed structure without knocking anything else off.
