About this deal

Hannah Tigone is writing a crime mystery and is sharing each chapter with her biggest fan, who is also beta reading for her and offering, initially, much needed input, as Hannah is an Australian author writing from a pandemic locked down Australia and her novel is set in Boston, America. We never get her perspective on anything, nor do we get her responses to the critique she receives for her story of Freddie, her friends and the murder. The Woman in the Library is an unexpectedly twisty literary adventure that examines the complicated nature of friendship - and shows that words can be the most treacherous weapons of all.

Winner of the Crime Fiction Lover Best Indie Crime Novel of 2022'Ingenious, light-hearted and old-fashioned in the best possible way. He makes corrections, fights for his suggestions, and sends photos he thinks Hannah should use for inspiration. It’s one of those novels you have to read it to believe it and I’m pretty confident you’ll also feel the same way that it’s an eccentric yet exciting read from beginning to end. There are only so many possibilities and—unless it was an alien or supernatural interloper who did it, but alas, no— it's hard to feel even a blip of surprise when it's all revealed in the end.The very end could be taken as sweet, if you don’t pay any attention and want to see the best in people. This man, Leo Johnson, is also an author, very down in the dumps about the publishing industry’s lack of interest in his book.

That Hannah had written in a reliable, kind version of Leo to counteract what her penpal had really turned out to be? With these details in place, Hannah’s story-within-a-story becomes a classic whodunit in which the quest for the identity of the true killer drives the plot. When choosing what to review, I enjoy a good murder mystery or a thriller, but can also be partial to a puzzle or an escape game. The review copy I received from Australian publishers Ultimo Press came with a little mystery all of its own. What a Library Means to a Woman was born from Liming’s ongoing work digitizing the Wharton library collection. I have to say, Gentill’s style of writing is very good as that first chapter set the tone for what I felt was likely to be a solid murder mystery. i am a dramatic person with a flair for believing everything to be a sign from the universe, so i thought my liking this was ordained.

His new work is a novel about Isaac Harmon, an older man who taught him how to survive on the streets. Security guards take charge immediately, instructing everyone inside to stay put until the threat is identified and contained. The story opens with Freddie, an Aussie on a writing scholarship, sitting at a table in the Boston Public Library with three strangers. It took me a while to figure out what was happening with the letters before every chapter but when I did it was a brilliant reveal. I wonder if all of this confusion was a purposeful choice by Gentill, as we as readers end up blurring storylines in the same way as Leo does. There was once near the middle where my attention flagged, but that was remedied all of two pages later. The artwork for this novel, created by Mika Tabata, is also very cool, and definitely caught my eye before I even picked up the book.
