This is Book 2 in the Accidental Medium series of mysteries featuring Tanz, a once-successful TV actress from Gateshead now living in London. In the first book Tanz discovered that she had the ability to communicate with the corporeally challenged. This is the second book I've read in this series featuring Tanz, a bit-part actor who is disenchanted with the acting world and who has recently discovered she can communicate with the dead. After her exploits in The Accidental Medium, Tanz is keeping a low profile in the spirit world, but the ghosts of the past won't leave her alone. Another fun romp with Tanz, this time on home turf where she has returned to for a minor role in a TV series. Set 7 months after the events of the first novel, Tanz is still coming to grips with her newfound abilities. This has involved alot of merlot, Netflix and hanging out in bed, alone. Tanz is an actress and also an accidental medium - she learned by chance that she can communicate with the dead and this has made her life very interesting indeed. Highly addictive with a main character that keeps you laughing even when faced with ghosts. I could not get enough, I devoured this book and wanted more.

I really enjoyed this book and found the characters to be brilliant. Tanz is hysterical and I think everyone will find her entertaining and want to read more about her, I know I do! There are some emotional bits in the story and some creepy bits but most of all it's fun and you won’t want to put it down. What a refreshing read for me! I'll admit, I have read a lot of "ok" books lately. This was definitely not one of these! Right away I liked Tanz and I loved her easy Northern way and low tolerance for BS! Her abilities, which aren't too over the top at all make her really special and I really loved this story. I haven't read book one but I'll be adding it directly to my wish list!

Poor Tanz has got enough on her plate juggling trying to make her acting dreams a reality with the demands of supply teaching – a profession she is wholly unsuited to! With Tanz feeling as if she is edging ever closer to a complete and utter meltdown, babbling ghosts is the very last thing she needs. But it seems as if things are finally looking up when she gets a paid acting gig in her hometown! Is Tanz on the precipice of superstardom? Or is she about to inadvertently stumble into more ghostly capers? She encounters a young dead boy after taking on an acting role in her old stomping ground of Newcastle Under Tyne and a malevolent spirit that wants to do her and her friends harm. But Tanz isn't having any of it and, as a result, becomes entangled in the world of those who have lingered and have a message to share.

Whilst I binged the first book, I found this one harder to get into and I didn't realise how much I had forgotten from the first book until it was mentioned in the second one but with little context to jog my memory as I read the first one months ago. The supernatural and medium aspect was handled so well, just really loved this one. I'm adding it to my favourite pile.🎯 I absolutely loved this second book from Tracy Whitwell and think the writing is better if possible!! Totally enjoyed and will be recommending far and wide! Gin Palace” is the second in the ‘The Accidental Medium’ trilogy books by Tracy Whitwell and works just as easily as a stand-alone or as a follow up. Any references to a previous event that occurred is covered enough for the reader to follow unheeded and the crossover into this book worked really well. It was genuinely easy to endear to Tanz and her friends, Milo and Sheila and her new acquaintance Gladys and I felt I made life long friends with them all too.Insufferable Characters, especially the main character, which are mostly unnecessary. 50% of the characters could have been left out. Of all the people (alive and not) introduced, I think I enjoyed Frank the most. I wish we had had some more interaction with him, but perhaps this will happen in a later book. I absolutely loved this book. I needed to have a get lost in a book moment or two, so I bought the previous book The Accidental Medium. If you’re wondering, you can read them as standalone books, but they are so humorous and interesting, for the sheer escapism I’d say buy the books! There’s a little bit of everything in them. I enjoyed the majority of this book as the concept was interesting and it was an easy read. However, it proved to be rather problematic due to the amount of casual misogyny, transphobia, and fatphobic comments made from Tanz, the main character. Not to mention the blatant stereotyping of the gay characters and her dislike of Martin as he isn’t as ‘fabulous’ as the other gay men in her life, such as best friend Milo, who is characterised as being sassy and flamboyant. The protagonist had an air of ‘not like other girls’ about her as she constantly put down Elsa for being interested in her appearance and commented how she finds it easier to have male friends as opposed to female friends. These were common themes throughout its entirety which were very uncomfortable and annoying to read. The constant ‘making homosexuality a personality trait’ thing, putting all gay people into a box and stereotyping them.

I'd recommend this to people who like the Riversy of London series, or who're looking for something like The Dresden Files with a female and more witchy twist. This story grabbed me immediately, it didn't take me an blink to get attached to the protagonist and immerse myself in the story that she had to buy.However, after an incident trying to solve a murder where her own life ended up at risk, Tanz is determined to ignore the voices and get on with her life. Actress Tanz is an accidental but talented medium and it’s while she’s filming scenes for a local tv series, that she becomes reluctantly embroiled in solving a century old murder that’s spooky, spiritual and at times scary. The emotional support she offered troubled fellow actress Caroline, who had recently been treating her as a second class citizen, was very endearing and truly brought a tear to my eye.
