About this deal

When selecting a fishing net bag, consider its size, material, and design to ensure it fits your specific net type and withstands environmental conditions. Maintenance and Care for Longevity Hand nets are operated by hand and are used to scoop fish out of the water. The net is held in the water, and the fish is scooped up and then lifted out of the water. The nets are typically used in shallow water, and the user wades through the water to catch fish. Types of Hand Nets Anne Turner, narrator and heroine of Lucy Jago’s A Net for Small Fishes, feels like she steps straight from the stage of a Jacobean masque. To an extent, she does. Turner, the widow of a London doctor, was a historical figure hanged at Tyburn for her part in the murder of Sir Thomas Overbury. She became an instant celebrity, vilified by contemporary playwrights. Turner was the subject of the anonymous play The Widow, and features in Thomas Middleton and William Rowley’s The World Tossed at Tennis. Wolf Hall meets The Favourite in Lucy Jago's A Net For Small Fishes, a gripping dark novel based on the true scandal of two women determined to create their own fates in the Jacobean court.

As a real life murder mystery with a historical fiction twist, this was a huge amount of fun. Having read rather dry accounts of the Overbury Affair previously, it was wonderful to experience the vibrancy of this reimagining. I loved the spirit of the female voices, their unlikely friendship, their struggle for self in a world dominated by male power. It's a testament to the strength of feeling in the novel that I hoped for a different ending. But for all the imaginative license Lucy Jago takes in the book, she hasn't aimed to ignore history, just enhance it. And the book is all the better for it. Full of colour and intrigue ... Historical fiction at its scintillating best and most filmic' Susan Elderkin A magnificent reimagining of a scandal in the Jacobean court . . . Masques, machinations and murder ensue, as well as affairs, gorgeously described clothes, and a dangerous friendship." A book begging to be read on the beach, with the sun warming the sand and salt in the air: pure escapism. Brilliant . . . Jago’s striking depictions of bearbaiting and court mourning, wedding breakfasts and adulterous trysts capture both the brutality and the refinement of Jacobean London. Anne’s shrewd narration grounds the novel’s explosive drama even as she slides toward mortal danger one apparently logical choice at a time. It adds up to a remarkable exploration of the power, limits, and price of women’s friendship. This is a sparkling achievement."

Media Reviews

Three woman who join together to rent a large space along the beach in Los Angeles for their stores—a gift shop, a bakery, and a bookstore—become fast friends as they each experience the highs, and lows, of love. Seine nets are horizontal nets that are deployed from a boat and encircle a school of fish. They are designed to entangle the fish by closing the net at the bottom. Seine nets can vary in size, from small nets used for recreational fishing to large nets used for commercial fishing. Advantages of Seine Nets:

The right fishing keepnet should offer enough space for fish to move and be made of fish-friendly materials.

Overall, a well written and entertaining novel revealing a fascinating world of court, scandal and plot through the eyes of a commoner. On the other hand, trawling involves dragging a large net through the water to catch as many fish as possible. It’s a more indiscriminate method that can result in significant bycatch and damage to the marine environment. Trawling is typically used for commercial fishing, while trolling is more commonly used by recreational fishermen. Overall, the main difference between trolling and trawling is the level of selectivity and precision involved in the fishing process. Factors to Consider When Selecting a Fishing Net The court of James I is a dangerous place. A whisper of scandal can ruin and people fight dirty to rise high. Intrigue is a given, but murder? Now that might be a step too far. When the little-loved Thomas Overbury is despatched though plotting and poison, someone must pay the price. But who? Carp Fishing Nets - Defined by their long arms, wide gape, deep mesh, and long handle, a carp fishing net is usually triangular in shape to help land the fish. You will also find carp net arms as small as 36 inches for UK carp or a long as 50 inches that are ideal for European waters. Most manufacturers tend to use a hex-mesh pattern in carp nets which is often considered to be the softest mesh pattern available. Others use a wide mesh in the top of the net, allowing good water flow through, and denser mesh on the base, to better protect your carp. Carp nets tend to be fairly deep, as they are sometimes used for retaining carp in the water immediately after capture or prior to release. Most carp nets come with 6ft (or approximately 185cm) handles as it allows you to keep your rod tip high whilst you’re landing your capture.

When it comes to fishing, there is very few items more important piece of equipment than the nets. After all, without them, you won't be able to lift a mighty double-figure fish out! When you have got a fish on your fishing hook you need to be ready to land the catch without stressing the fish or injury, which is why fishing nets are perfectly designed to cater to your target species.Bravura historical debut . . . Jago keenly conveys the peril of being a woman of any class in the 17th century . . . Like all the best historical fiction, A Net for Small Fishes is a gloriously immersive escape from present times, but it’s not escapism." Hand nets are primarily used for small-scale fishing operations and recreational fishing. They are often used to catch baitfish, such as minnows, for use in other types of fishing. They can also be used to catch panfish, such as sunfish or bluegill, for food or sport. Environmental Impact of Hand Nets The court of King James 1st is a seething mass of political intrigue as some of the greatest families in the land jostle for influence with their new Scottish king. A Net for Small Fishes focuses on two women caught up in the manoeuvrings of the Howards, one of the great Catholic families who adhered to their faith and maintained a position at court even during the English Reformation My reservations lie in the fact that the book is slow initially and it takes a while to immerse yourself but once you connect to the storytelling it’s a compelling and excellent read. There are inevitably a lot of characters and some knowledge of the period is helpful though not essential. The scenes painted in historical London are authentically portrayed, along with the engaging dialogue, delivering an enthralling read with intelligent and distinctive voices. The depth of the characters creates personalities full of light and shade, witty, and fascinating.

Painting also enriches the tale of the two main female characters. Depictions of Judity and Holofernes, a very popular theme in Renaissance and Baroque Italian painting, provides Jago, with additional drama and impact. I am Mistress Anne Turner, wife of Dr. Turner,” I announced over the noise from within. “I have been summoned.” Like all the best historical fiction, A Net for Small Fishes is a gloriously immersive escape from present times, but it’s not escapism: the outrage with which Anne is told at her trial that “you have acted of and for yourself, which is itself against the proper bounds of womanhood” is a sentiment that echoes down the centuries. Shrewd yet impetuous, entirely without self-pity, Anne remains a lively companion for the modern reader throughout; her tragedy, Jago suggests, is that she was too good a companion to Frances. Look for options with a sturdy frame, deep mesh, and a long handle to support the weight of large carp comfortably. Keepnet ConsiderationsWe first meet Anne when she is called to visit Frances Howard (“Frankie”), who has been brutally beaten by her husband, Robert Devereaux, Earl of Essex. Anne, a “fashioner”, has been summoned by Frankie’s mother in the hope that a change of costume might persuade Essex to undertake his husbandly duties. Frankie remains, it would seem, a virgin. Anne is older and faintly disappointed with her life as a mother and sometime costumier. In Frankie she finds a young friend of beauty, spirit and class. Anne thrums with life all the way through to her tragic, gruesome end Language: I’ve seen reviewers on GR say the cod-historical over-bejewelled prose forced them to abandon this. The prose is an issue, did need toning down, and some metaphors are distinctly risible. The same goes for dialogue. It does calm down later on (or maybe I just got habituated). The Thelma and Louise of the seventeenth century: two mismatched heroines, two grittily textured lives, an outrageous plot (true!), sex, politics, and a gut-wrenching ending." The location where you plan to fish can also impact the type of net that will work best. For example, if you will be fishing in a river or stream, a smaller net may be more appropriate than if you were fishing in the ocean. Water Depth
