About this deal

The collection consists of 11 genre-bending tales, with Tudor exhibiting her apt skills for efficiently blending various narrative categories such as horror, crime, mystery, post-apocalyptic and more that the reader comes across in the course of this dark, sinister assemblage.

If you like horror/thriller and only medium gross, to be safe, her stuff is great and also pretty funny imo. There is also a bit of humor in some of these stories (I'm Not Ted being a personal favorite) and I loved the 'expect the unexpected' twists at the end of each story. I highly recommend reading this set if you enjoy horror even a little bit as I'm pretty sure you will enjoy the whole collection. With many of these imaginative tales written during the pandemic, this lends a dystopian and end of the world vibe to them. This idea of including where each of them came from was completely brilliant, and I loved hearing how each one came to be included in this book. The Lion at the Gate follows a group of boys who discover a graffiti lion that doesn’t stay as a painting for long. Story 7 | "I am not Ted" - A case of mistaken identity might just leave the bloke in this story in a bit of hot water. Her English teacher once told her that if she ‘did not become Prime Minister or a best-selling author’ he would be ‘very disappointed.

Runaway Blues – This was a story that Tudor dedicated to Stephen King, and it was very kingesque, especially in his Bachman era. With MANY “end of the world” and isolation themes, these stories definitely were NOT all my cup of tea…but with all short story collections you always connect with some more than others.

Tudor engineered a consistent set of nearly a dozen terse tales that keeps the reader engaged throughout the course of the book.

Tudor includes a b srief, though succinct, introduction in the beginning of each story, contemplating on what inspired her and offering valuable insights to the reader who is in a better position to assess what's coming next. Amongst my favourites were The Block, The Lion at the Gate, Final Course, Dust and Butterfly Island, although in fairness I could happily recommend them all. That's when she decided to change paradigms and express her love of writing through the short story medium. Each story has quite a bit of intrigue, scares, and immersion that I think just about everyone can enjoy. A decadent and phantasmagorical descent into the dark chasm where I first fell in love with horror fiction. Story 1 | "End of the Liner" - A post-apocalyptic world where we follow a group of people stuck on a cruise ship for decades. Tudor manages to pack so much into such a short piece of writing that really makes the reader feel uncomfortable and freaked out. I was immediately drawn in by her introduction to this book of short stories where she shared the health challenges of her parents during the pandemic.
