About this deal

We have 12 read-alikes for An Instance of the Fingerpost, but non-members are limited to two results. He unnaturally died of natural causes though he was later dug up, hung in chains, and ceremoniously beheaded.

Both Prescott and Wallis are, in different ways, less concerned with facts than their appearance, and how these can serve them, with Prescott wanting to prove his father was not a traitor and Wallis always thinking he knows best. So, for example, Prescott is consumed by little else than proving that his father was not a traitor -- driven essentially to madness by his quest (but his actions nevertheless having consequences for many of the others in the story).

An Instance of the Fingerpost is a four-part novel, set in the second half of the seventeenth century -- mainly in 1663, not long after the fall of Oliver Cromwell and the Restoration, and mainly in Oxford. Guidance was given in a 1921 circular that road direction signs should have 2 + 1⁄ 2-or-3-inch-high (64 or 76mm) upper case lettering on a white background and white supporting poles. This is a sprawling, rambling novel and if its tension is sometimes sacrificed for esoteric byways, that's the whole pleasure of it, really (. His story seems believable too, but has little to do with De Cola's except that somehow they both are involved in getting the same people knifed to death. I may, after I recover from reading this a first time, read it again, just to see if I'm totally off base.

With pedant-defying scholarship it bludgeons the reader into accepting its authenticity by the very weight of historical detail. for a stand-alone about a police detective, a developmentally delayed boy, and a package everyone in North Dakota wants to grab. On the whole, Pears structures the narrative -- and how the pieces are revealed in it -- very well: to say this is a story simply told four times over would give a completely wrong picture of the much more complex (and less wearying) presentation that's actually on offer. We take pride in offering a wide selection of used books, from classics to hidden gems, ensuring there? But it also become clear to the reader that, while Cola might be an unreliable narrator, there is no reason not to think the others are also shaping their narratives for their own purposes; certainly the spin they put on some of the events suggests a great deal of self-interest is at work here.

Given what happened to his father and the life he had on the run, fearing assassination, maybe it makes sense that Charles II devoted his life to the pursuit of pleasure. He is given the task of wrapping up the narrative and, if he can be believed, gives information that neatly solves the many threads of the plot. Makes one consider our perceptions of history, individual rights, and the historical treatment of women. He'd climb out of bed to change the sheets and pillow cases for dry linens, tossing the wet items in the washing machine. Considering the fate of Sarah Blundy, what do you think Pears is saying about the construct of social justice versus divine justice? But that is all on the periphery of our story, merely serving as a backdrop for a good old fashioned English murder mystery.
