About this deal

Biological control agents (BCAs) are one of the oldest and most effective means for achieving insect control. There's no harm in using nematodes at regular intervals, for example in Spring when eggs may be laid or starting to hatch. Like most biocontrols, nematodes are best used to keep pest populations low and will not remedy a serious outbreak already in progress.

The fungus gnat larvae can be controlled all year round as long as the soil temperature is at least 8°C. The nematodes can only travel through/live in moist soil, so they will not leave your plant pots/containers and will die out naturally once the weevil larvae are killed.Q - I have been keeping the compost quite dry to try and get rid of the gnats, will this be ok for the nematodes? Several BCAs, such as insect parasitic nematodes, predatory mites and beetles, parasitic wasps and beneficial fungi and bacteria can be used to reduce pest populations. It is important to remove all filters or screens (50 mesh or finer) in any spray lines so that the nematodes can pass through unimpeded and undamaged. Beneficial Nematodes are resistant to most chemicals as they are protected as infective juveniles by a sheath.

Moisten the potting soil of the plants ahead of time so that the nematode solution will not run out underneath the pot when applied. Spray the soil or compost and ensure plenty of the solution is applied directly onto the Fungus Fly larvae. Additionally, they reproduce quickly and a small fungus gnat problem can soon escalate to a significant (and highly irritating) infestation. Once they find a host, they enter the body cavity through the breathing or feeding systems, and release bacteria (Xenorhabdus). Maintain moist soil conditions for not less than two weeks after treatment (to ensure a favourable environment for the second generation). Our House Plant Care Bundle also includes a free House Plant Mister which can be used to apply House Plant Boost, or simply to mist your plants and improve humidity levels. Overwatering your houseplants, or simply having a lot of them, can wreak havoc to your indoor space.

By combining chemicals and biologicals, more stages of the fungus gnats’ life cycle will be targeted, providing more complete pest control. Fungus Gnats ( Orfelia and Bradysia) are gray to black, mosquito-like insects that prefer warm, humid conditions.

If the infestation is very heavy or if you have a larger area to treat, you should use a dose for 100m².

Repeat applications may be required after 4 weeks to prevent the build up of fresh Fungus Fly larvae. GNATNEM® Fungus Gnat treatment actively seeks out and kills fungus gnat larvae that live in the soil and cause damage to the root system of plants. Use of entomopathogenic nematodes and new monitoring technique for control of fungus gnats, Bradysia coprophila (Diptera: Sciaridae), in floriculture.I left my plants' soil to dry out for about 5-7 days, then when I finally bought the nematodes I could drench the lot of them. Ensure treated area is irrigated both before and after application as the nematodes require moisture for movement and need to be washed off into the soil where the pest is. It is often a good idea to treat any new plants you bring in as they can already be infested upon purchase. Beneficial Nematodes are applied like any conventional spray application via a back-pack sprayer, boom spray, watering can or venturi hose end sprayer.
