About this deal

He played with a series of local bands before joining a local hard group, the Outcasts, before moving on to create a new group, Gary and the Remarkables. He, along with bass player Kerry Chater, keyboardist Gary Withem, saxophonist Dwight Bement, and drummer Paul Wheatbread served as the starting lineup. However, when the band embarked on its Pacific Northwest tour in 1966, Wheatbread stayed behind to serve as the house drummer for the Where the Action is television series. He did eventually catch up with the group. The break came for the group when Jerry Fuller, a former country music artist and a producer for Columbia Records in Los Angeles, heard them at a small bar where they were performing in a bowling alley complex. Fuller liked their sound and signed them to a contract.

I’ve known for as long as I can remember that “Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)” is about an adulterous affair. Maybe I never listened as well to the lyrics as I should have, though, because what the guy in the relationship does to the woman who leaves him, after he’s slept in her bathtub, is to light a fire at her place. a b Roberts, David (2006).
