About this deal

Mind Your Head was created in 2005 following the personal experiences of its founding members. The first money was received from the funeral of a family member who died by suicide in 2004, after many years of suffering from mental health problems. Self awareness: Recognising the supporters own mental wellbeing, making sure they have enough resilience of their own to cope with looking after someone else. Everybody is different, but 30-60 minutes will probably be enough for to feel the positive benefits of using the lamp. There's no harm in using it for longer and you can even make up this time by dipping in throughout the day. If you find your eyes ache slightly, try using it further away or switch it off for a while. We all experience periods of low mood in our lifetime and feel miserable or sad about life. For some people these bouts of low mood can be short-lived and manageable, but for others these periods can become prolonged and can interfere with their day-to-day functioning. The Wellness Together Programme (WTP) is a short-term service of around 6-8 weeks and is open to anyone aged 18 and over, is free and confidential. The person that you are supporting does not need to have a diagnosis.

Receive practical support towards whatever it is you are struggling with (for example - using public transport, getting out of the house, attending appointments, making phone calls, finding new hobbies, practicing self-love, building self-confidence) Now: We are currently working alongside NHS Shetland in developing a Distress Brief Intervention Service.

Anouska Civico said, “Mind Your Head are excited to finally launch the Wellness Café. It is an extension of the work that Mind Your Head do and will provide the opportunity for people to come together and take time out for themselves. We all need to take care of ourselves and often we simply forget that. Within Shetland we are getting much better at realising the importance of looking after ourselves and the impact that this can have on our own wellbeing. “ Position the lamp at arm's length (about 50cm/20in) with the plastic screen angled towards your face. Plug into the power outlet and switch on. Although you don't need to stare at it, the light must reach your eyes to have any effect. This means you can use the lamp whilst working at the computer, watching TV, reading, etc. Dark glasses, tinted lenses or closing your eyes will all limit the effects of light therapy. The key difference between depression and low mood is when the feelings continue despite taking positive steps to help manage low mood. After the assessment, a member of the team will be in touch with a decision for your suitability for the service.

Drop-in sessions - Mind Your Head staff can attend school lunchtime or drop-in sessions in schools, community and residential settings, to talk about available support services.
