About this deal

Unfortunately, there's only a very ineffective safety mechanism for the rotor blades, reliant on friction pins, so when they foul on anything the gearbox seizes and the motor stalls. This is almost certainly going to happen at one time or another because when the blades are vertical they touch the ground, which of course prevents them from rotating. We will never know whether the set was cancelled due to external pressure, or because of this flaw. The fact that LEGO did not offer it to fan media for review a month or so ago at the same time as the other summer Technic sets suggests to me that it is the latter. In fact, one could argue that the external pressure provided a way for the company to save face and look like it was doing the right thing, while keeping the real reason for its withdrawal under wraps. But some LEGO fans defend the color problem as not being a problem. I know Technic is a functionality toy but you have to respect the fans that are into LEGO for the looks of a car, Architecture or a building that in lately is made with disturbing difference in colors. You can see the battery box clearly here. It's possible to change the batteries without needing to remove it, or disassemble anything.

The LEGO Technic Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey was designed to highlight the important role the aircraft plays in search and rescue efforts. While the set clearly depicts how a rescue version of the plane might look, the aircraft is only used by the military.?We have a long-standing policy not to create sets which feature real military vehicles, so it has been decided not to proceed with the launch of this product. Its dimensions are identical to the Control+ hub and it uses the same 6 AA battery 'cassette'. There are two outputs and two independent switches which can be operated via a pin hole at the top or an axle hole on the side. The Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey is a tiltrotor aircraft for VTOL (vertical takeoff and landing) missions and is operated by the U.S. Air Force, Marines, and Navy, as well as the Japan Self-Defense Forces. Although some examples are equipped to play search and rescue operations, the V-22 is not operated by any civilian sources. We are used to criticizing LEGO Technic sets for being inaccurate in terms of scale and shaping. However, this V-22 Osprey model is a very accurate copy of the prototype depicted at the end of the instructions. The shape looks great, and the proportions are beautiful, not to mention a lot of moving parts inside and outside of the aircraft.

The four movements are facilitated in the same way: Turn on the motor, then move the gearbox switches as required. Or, move a switch first, then turn on the motor. Once movement is complete, turn the motor off, or move the gearbox switch into the central neutral position. There's no question about it. The gearbox is fundamentally flawed. There is too much power being driven through tiny plastic gears which simply can't take it. I look forward to seeing what Sariel concludes in his video review, which should be available in a few days. I find it bizarre that people insist that Lego is trying to hide the real reason it was cancelled. A bad gearbox design makes tons of sense. Yes, they could have sold it then sold fix kits like the did with Wall-e. But who really wants that. What this list doesn't have: Triangular curved panels (Sian's hood). DBG gears or connectors or axles. All the remaining parts in the Master list. This new set was launched by LEGO® as an airplane used in search and rescue missions, as shown on the box. In practice, however, this aircraft is only used by military organizations. For example, the Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey is used for military missions in Iraq and Yemen. Whatever the reason, you'd have thought it would have become apparent much earlier in its design lifecycle. The interior design of the engines brings no surprises. It is just a solid structure with lovely use of smaller panels for aerodynamic shape. Small turntables allow for the robust mounting and smooth tilting of the engines.

What this list has: All of the Orange liftarms and panels and system parts in the part list above, but in Red. That means it does include the parts in Orange exclusive to this set, but those parts are listed in Red.

Verdict

However, I still think that, to avoid damage again, the motor should be switched on before engaging the gearbox to turn the rotors. With the lately results like color problems, design problems, it seems something is very wrong in that business scheme. Technic Curved Panel 3×13 in DBG (18944 / 6303446) Why has LEGO® 42113 Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey been cancelled? On the contrary, I’m in love with the new 5×13 curved panels. The way they fit on top of the hull makes me think that it was designed with this model. Accompanied by a couple of tiny panels in orange, this whole section is a feast for the eye. Despite being a licensed product, the set comes with absolutely no additional information about the real aircraft. Speaking about the clarity of the building guide, I must admit there are a couple of rather complicated steps that I wish were redesigned. For an inexperienced builder, the set might be a tough challenge.

Thankfully, it's relatively easy to get the gearbox out of the aircraft to work on it. You can see the mangled gears underneath. And it seems I am not alone: a few days ago the picture below was posted on Reddit showing the same broken 8-tooth gear as in mine. The gearbox takes the most of the room inside the aircraft, but there is still some below the gears and towards the rear ramp. This provides additional playability as you can transport, for example, a bunch of pencils inside the aircraft. No because all of the other components for the main functions, namely gears and the L-motor, have all been released in other sets, and there are ways to get around the requirement for the new dumb battery box. However, the gearbox contains a serious design flaw, the likes of which we've never encountered in a Technic model before. I've managed to break it within a few hours of building it. If the mechanisms are kept within their limits and operated in a particular way, they operate fairly well, but it's all too easy to strain the motor and break the gears. Saying that its because the Osprey is a war machine is just stupid. Here is the simple reason why. Go take a look at Set 60020. That's a V-22 Osprey. An Osprey has been done before. We appreciate that some fans who were looking forward to this set may be disappointed, but we believe it’s important to ensure that we uphold our brand values. The first thing I tried was to replace them with bushes and elastic bands but it did not transfer enough torque so it didn't work.
