About this deal

The hinges allow an excellent range of movement for close or wide-set eyes. The twist-up eyecups also add a level of customization to make them more comfortable for the individual wearing them and are especially welcomed by spectacle wearers. eye relief is possible thanks to the twist-up eyecups, which means the Celestron Nature DX 12x56 binoculars are comfortable for spectacle wearers to use.

While the center of the image is sharp and crisp and colorful, I noticed that softening of focus starts just over half way from center to edge, maybe at 60% of the view. This is where the low price shows. Will they suffice or do you need a more expensive pair? That depends on what you're after. Equipped with 10x magnification and 50mm objective lenses, the UpClose G2 10x50 are both powerful and fast, offering plenty of magnification and also able to collect a lot of light.

Celestron Nature DX 12x50 ED Binoculars

As your forefingers arch over the barrels they have to reach a bit farther to the focusing knob. That means you adjust the knob more with the tips of your fingers rather than the pads. With the extra turning this knob needs to focus, it is not as comfortable as it could be. That could make turning the focusing knob with gloved fingers more awkward. The table above shows the most important specs when it comes to bird watching binoculars. Bird watching requires several optical parameters that don't matter as much for hunting or general wildlife viewing. These numbers can be a bit intimidating, but I explain, below. Thanks to the wide field of view, you'll be hard-pressed to find better than the reliable and robust Vortex 10x50 Crossfire HD for wildlife watching and occasional stargazing. For one of the best binoculars you can buy it's worth taking a look at the Canon 10x42L IS WP binoculars which we've ranked top of our best binoculars buying guide. They come with outstanding optical clarity and image stabilization.

A durable rubber armored, polycarbonate housing protects your Nature DX binoculars from damage without weighing you down. Twist-up eyecups with multiple stops ensure proper positioning of the eyes, even for eyeglass wearers. My wife, Marlene, was with me on a trip where we spent much time comparing them. She isn't as dedicated to bird watching as I am. She doesn't have much experience with binoculars, either, especially good ones. So I used her as a "beginner binocular user" to get her impressions. Need something a bit bigger, and geekier? Want to get a closer look at those night sky objects? Then the Celestron SkyMaster Pro 20x80 are for you. Massive 20x magnification takes you right up to the lunar surface of the moon, giving users the ability to identify different seas and areas on its surface. The 80mm objective lenses positively drink in the light (be careful on a full moon) and Jupiter and its moons are clearly visible on a cloudless night. Celestron Nature DX 12x56: VerdictThe trade-off here is a slightly narrower field of view (of about 4.8°), which makes them slightly less than ideal for using at night to search star-fields and constellations in the night sky. However, in practice the Celestron Nature DX ED 12x50 performs really well at night, with the Andromeda galaxy looking sharp and well defined. Ditto the crescent Moon, which looked clean with no sign of purplish fringing – thanks to that ED glass. A slightly more expensive pair of binoculars, the Celestron Nature DX ED 12x50, offers better quality extra-low dispersion glass, which eliminates chromatic aberration and helps give a sharper image. Like the Celestron Nature DX 12x56s here, they have grippy rubber armor, close focusing distance and are nitrogen filled and waterproof. They also weigh considerably less, so they might be more suitable for those who want something a little easier to handle.

Generous 50mm objective lenses gather lots of light, making these binoculars an ideal choice when viewing conditions are dim, such as at dawn or dusk. With 10x magnification, this model is an excellent choice for long distance viewing or surveillance. These are some of the finest handheld binoculars for stargazing and wildlife observation. The Extra-low dispersion (ED) objective lenses produce aberration-free sharp images.
