Over the many months I have used this style of head, I have not found the bristles to fray or split and have been very pleased with the performance with no desire to change to another brush head, other than perhaps the sensitive brush head. Sometimes the previous brush head can break, and the bit on the inside can get stuck on the metal shaft. To my knowledge they clean as well as the regular crossaction heads, the difference being the bristles.
