About this deal

Smooth works well with sports and action shows, but for movies our standard ‘switch it off’ mantra still applies – pictures just look more cinematic without interpolation. Suppose you could find some channels you don't get on Freeview or, for that matter, UK terrestrial full stop.

Available in sizes that range from as small as 43-inches to as big as 75-inches, the DLED means there’s no sort of local dimming technology for better black levels and contrast. The LG displays perfect blacks, with no blooming or uniformity issues, making it a better choice in a dark room. There’s a good selection of streaming services, including Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube, Britbox and Rakuten TV. The first of two new laser TVs, the 100L9G-DLT100 TriChroma features a bright and detailed ALR screen regardless of the lighting conditions in your home. All the buttons are present and correct, including direct access to Netflix, YouTube, Rakuten TV, Prime Video and Freeview Play. For a start, it’s very dim for an HDR TV, with a peak brightness of around 300cd/m² on both a 10% window and full-field in Dynamic mode. The Hisense has much better viewing angles and much better accuracy, but it's better suited for a room with a bit of lighting, as it has low contrast but can't get bright enough to overcome glare. The A6G runs the latest version of the VIDAA U smart platform and supports HDR10, Dolby Vision and HLG.

Does anyone know of a specific setting I need to get this working properly or is there a guide anywhere for configuring Freesat on these TVs? There's very little difference in the pixel response time between different transitions; they're all just okay. Its HDR peak brightness performance is very much what you’d expect from a budget LED backlit screen, but Dolby Vision content is well balanced. The Samsung AU8000 and the Hisense A6G use different panel technologies, each with strengths and weaknesses, but the Samsung is much better overall.

But edges can get a bit restless, and the depth of field that is at such a premium with 4K stuff disappears altogether. It has a low contrast ratio, so blacks look gray in a dark room, and it has sub-par black uniformity that results in blooming and clouding throughout.

Hisense isn’t best known for creating high-edge premium TVs, instead focusing on creating affordable, 4K TVs suitable for a variety of budgets that use its in-house VIDAA smart platform. This information is used to pick out ads delivered by the platform and assess the ad performance and its attribute payment. It doesn't have advanced gaming features, but its input lag is low, so the overall gaming experience isn't bad. I tested out the HDR Dynamic mode with His Dark Materials – a show that requires a more true-to-life grasp on colour. However, it's one of a few TVs with a composite adapter so that you can connect old devices like a DVD player or an early-generation gaming console.
