About this deal

A feminist exploration of the power of walking in nature, following in the footsteps of Gwen John, Georgia O’Keeffe, Frieda Lawrence, Clara Vyvyan, Simone de Beauvoir and Nan Shepherd. This book is mainly made of past articles that he wrote for the various newspapers he has written for over the years as well as anecdotes of growing up in Barnsley and his aspirations as a cricketor and his overall opinions on sporting giants of cricket and soccer. My Sporting Life is Sir Michael's love letter to sport, to the heroes and legends of his Yorkshire youth, to the characters of the international games he watched and wrote about, and to the very idea of sport itself. She retraces the lives and walks of remarkable women who found solace, redemption and personal and artistic freedom in walking. In this chronicle of his experiences as a militiaman in the Spanish Civil War, George Orwell brings to bear all the force of his humanity, passion and clarity, describing with bitter intensity the bright hopes and cynical betrayals of that chaotic and brutal episode in European history.

Consequently fascinated by the art, literature and philosophy of walking in nature, she realised it had never before been told from a woman’s point of view. But while they went on to find fame on the field, he found a career watching, writing and talking about sport. The story of extraordinary women who lost their way – their sense of self, their identity, their freedom – and found it again through walking in the wild. He rose through the ranks of Barnsley cricket along with his friends Dickie Bird and Geoffrey Boycott. He is also a legendary TV and radio presenter - his long-running chat show Parkinson was hugely popular for many years. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

I might add that I am probably a member of that fan club as Parkinson is a superb TV interviewer and an excellent journalist. But while they went on to find fame on the field, he spent the next few decades watching, writing and talking about sport. His father, a fearsome fast bowler himself, indoctrinated young Michael from an early age into the Yorkshire cricket tradition and supporting Barnsley FC.On encountering the poem, she becomes obsessed with its parallels with her own life, and sets out to track down the rest of the story. Michael Parkinson has a star quality and as such a following of devoted fans and this book is aimed at that market. He wrote a sports column for The Sunday Times for fifteen years and has also written for the Telegraph. Recovering from a life-threatening accident, Annabel Abbs rediscovered a lost love of long, wild hikes.
