About this deal

Think of a dolman sleeve as a softer version of a kimono sleeve. It is widely used on blouses and dresses especially lighter-weight knit fabrics. Some dolman sleeves are short in length while others are longer and tapered into a fitted silhouette at the bottom. There a lot of different designs you can achieve with a dolman sleeve but its main characteristic is that the sleeve is not connected to the body of the garment through a seam but rather incorporated into the garment at the pattern drafting stage.

Long: stops at the the wrist or bellow the wrist forming a regular straight silhouette. A long set-in sleeve is the most widely used sleeve in apparel. Bellows thermostats were first introduced in 1937 or 1938. A so called “bi-metal coiled system” (also supplied by Smiths) was applied before the introduction of Bellows thermostats. Smiths bellows-type thermostat types were used on many cars throughout the 1940s and 1950s: BMC, Ford, and many others used them for their engines with by-pass cooling system. Bellows thermostat production ceased in 1960 or 1961. The more typical wax pellet type thermostats were substituted. Smiths bellows type thermostat on XK 120, XK 140 and XK 150.Petal sleeves are more commonly incorporated into short or three quarter sleeves. Shorter sleeves work better with the crisscrossing nature of the two fabric layers, keeping them more aligned and structured. They can be gathered or subtly pleated at the armhole seam for a more puffy, flared-out look. Petal sleeves make a great addition to lightweight chiffon blouses and dresses. The bellows sleeve according to claim 1, wherein said tongue and material accumulations form part of the surface of one of the flanges, and wherein the groove and the recesses are formed in the surface of the other of said flanges.

Available as QT 101/70 and QT 101/80 with opening temperature of 70° C (158 F) or 80° C (176 F). Also QT 201/86 is available as a “winter thermostat”. In a bellows sleeve having a body made of elastic material, a longitudinal slot in said body extending at least partially along said sleeve, first and second flange means extending longitudinally along said slot and radially away from said sleeve body, said flange means having surfaces facing each other, sealing tongue and groove means forming part of said surfaces and arranged for cooperation with each other, as well as means for clamping said flanges together at spaced points along the flanges, the improvement comprising a wedge cross-sectional shape for said sealing tongue means intermediate said clamping means, a corresponding wedge shape for said sealing groove means also intermediate said clamping means, material accumulations at said spaced points forming part of one of said flange surface, and corresponding recesses forming part of the other of said flange surfaces at said points for receiving said accumulations.Just like kimono sleeves, dolman sleeves do not have an armhole seam but are rather built into the bodice of the garment. As opposed to a kimono sleeve, a dolman sleeve has a more round, smooth curve at the underarm and the sleeve often looks like it is tapering in towards the bottom. If you look at a kimono sleeve for example, you will notice that the sleeves look straight both at the inseams and outer seams. By contrast, a dolman sleeve is drafted on a slight downward curve at the top, and the underarm has a wider curve that is not as abrupt as that of a kimono sleeve.

A puff sleeve features different silhouettes in its body as long as the shoulder area maintains a puffed-out style. The puffed portion of the sleeve can be very subtle or quite pronounced. The size depends on how dense or how deep the pleating at the armhole is. The above mentioned feature of making the height of the material accumulations 13 higher than the height of the tongues 11 provides so called creeping paths of increased length which is especially advantageous where the sleeves are employed in connection with jointed cross shaft semi-axles of motor vehicles. Surprisingly, these creeping paths facilitate a continuous pressing and squeezing action. Butterfly sleeves become wider as they move from the armhole down, creating a circular ruffle look in the body of the sleeve. Butterfly sleeves become gradually wider in shape starting right at the top, where the armhole seam meets the body of the garment. As you might have guessed, the reason it is called a butterfly sleeve is because it closely resembles the shape of a butterfly wing when extended. The present invention relates to so called bellows sleeves employed for sealing purposes between moving parts. More specifically, the invention relates to such bellows sleeves as are employed for sealing jointed cross shaft axles especially such semi-axles relative to the respective axle gear. These sleeves are made of elastic material such as rubber and are divided longitudinally at least along a portion of the sleeve body. Along the dividing slot there extend flanges radially outwardly which are provided with surfaces facing each other and including sealing tongues and grooves which are pressed against each other by means of screws. Early XK engines had a cooling system pressure of about 4 lbs./sq.in. Newly developed engines in the 60’s had an increased cooling system pressurization (of at least 7 lbs./sq.in.) and the higher system pressure negatively affected the functioning of the bellows type design as it relied on expanding gases within the bellows.

Another, even more important advantage of the tongue and groove configuration as taught by the invention is seen in that, the pointed shape results in high specific sealing pressure which assures a safe sealing. The weak spots which were present heretofore especially around the clamping screws have been removed according to the invention by said material accumulations and respective recesses arranged around said clamping screw. Thus, the invention is seen in the combination of the pointed wegde shaped tongues and grooves with the material accumulations and recesses. Many suggestions have been made heretofore for the improvement of such bellows sleeves. Mainly these suggestions have been concerned with the improvement of the materials of which the bellows sleeves are made because the requirements with regard to the oil resistance, a sufficient elasticity, and a long life have called for special attention. However, the closure of the divided sleeve also requires substantial attention because the closure as such constitutes a weak spot. This is so because the flanges which are clamped to each other by means of screws are subject to a certain mechanical working or squeezing, although the sleeves are positioned in such a manner that the flanges are located in a neutral motion zone. Accordingly, inspite of said tongues and grooves, the sealing has not always been completely satisfactory. After WW2 AC Sphinx supplied two ranges of “bellow-type” thermostats: TC series without sleeve and the TF series with sleeve or as AC called it in a 1948 advertisment: “ the by-pass type of thermostat“ AC Sphinx adverisement of Aug 1948
