About this deal

mm is common on older road bikes with drop handlebars. - There are other less common sizes that we do not provide shims for. However, other handlebar shim sizes may be available at your local bike shop. But, in the case that you have a smaller diameter handlebar, we also have shims available for 26.0 mm and 25.4 mm handlebar sizes. Sadly I couldn't work out what the effect would be if tyres and pressures were already wider and lower. On my Al road bike, which is pretty buzzy (hence my burgeoning obsession with this) I'm on 28 mm and 70 ish psi. Any lower and a feeling of vagueness like Matt Lucas impersonating Boris Johnson comes in as the speed gets above 35 km/h (descending only, I seldom get a tailwind for that speed on the flat). The bottom of range Michelins might be a factor. So this might help a bit.

Durability: The stem is designed to withstand the rigors of off-road riding, with a durable construction that is resistant to damage from impact and corrosion. This used - by 2020 standards - narrow tyres and high pressures (23 mm and 116 psi), 77 kg rider, and showed that the TransX equated to dropping the pressure to 102 psi. The Redshift was a lot better, the equivalent being 78 psi. Any bag that just attaches to the saddle or just attaches to the post is fine. But when you attach to both the post and the saddle you need to account for the relative motion of the saddle to the post. This means that if you cinch down the bag when off the bike it might have some movement when you get on the saddle and compress the post a bit - this might not be a problem but it might be something that is an issue.

Warming to a theme here (& it's a bit warmer than the weather), I found an academic paper (pdf) comparing a Redshift, a TranzX and a standard aluminium stem here: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.mdpi.co... Ride faster - feeling refreshed from the energy that is normally wasted suspending your body as it is converted into forward motion

Redshift ShockStop PRO Suspension Stem – How it feels

if you want that softer ride, I wouldn't waste time with a flexstem reinvented, I'd look at short travel front forks. Or just fatter tyres at a lower pressure, which, as the reviewer points out, smooth things out too Take control - customize your suspension feel to float over obstacles and maintain control over rough terrain Details: Reduced fatigue: By reducing the amount of stress and fatigue on your body, a suspension seatpost can help you to conserve energy and ride for longer without feeling as tired. The small unweighted saddle height increase needs a slight adjustment when mounting up for the first time. At the suggested preload setting, I immediately felt neutrally suspended and didn’t notice any negative effect on seated pedalling. Its two-bolt saddle clamp remains level atop a parallelogram linkage pivoting on dry-lube bushings. When weight is added to the post a link compresses the internal spring(s), creating user-adjustable sag, which Redshift recommends should be around 20 per cent of the 35mm total travel.

The gel bartape comparison is not applicable - gel bar tape compresses by maybe a mm and damps higher-frequency vibration, the stem shifts 20mm to smooth out bigger hits. Not sure what size seatpost you have currently? There are a couple different ways to find out.• Most seatposts have the diameter printed somewhere near the bottom of the post. You'll need to remove the seatpost from the bike frame (mark your existing seatpost height with a bit of tape before you remove it so you can replace it easily), and look for a number like 27.2, 30.9, or 31.6 (etc.). That is the diameter of the post. The other main option to compare against would be an increased tyre size, which can also increase comfort when set at suitable pressures. Still, while this can be advantageous, it can also have downsides, such as slower rolling resistance in some cases and frame clearance in most gravel bikes. Weight: While the stem is made from lightweight materials, it may still be slightly heavier than some other stem options, particularly those made from lighter materials such as carbon fiber. Fit: The stem only comes in a 6-degree angle and a few lengths which can be very limiting to some riders.

The easiest way to determine your handlebar size is to see if it's printed on the handlebar. This will require removing your current stem faceplate.
