About this deal

In all, the positives on this side of the box drastically outweigh the negatives. The leggy dreadnought, the duplicate Infernus Squad sprues, and the push-fit models (which won’t be a criticism for some people who aren’t fans of the building process) are tiny niggles that are easily forgotten amidst the spew of exciting, detailed, and unique miniatures.

Hive Fleet Leviathan invaded the galaxy from below the galactic plane, taking the Milky Way's defenders completely by surprise. The Ballistus Dreadnought is a fearsome weapons platform armed with a versatile missile launcher and a devastating lascannon, the perfect counter to heavily armoured enemy monsters and tanks. Read more about the Space Marine side of the box here: Wielding a combi-weapon and two combat blades, this Phobos-armoured Lieutenant can infiltrate ahead of the main Space Marine force, sowing discord among his enemies and disrupting their battle lines. Sternguard Veteran SquadAll of the minis in Leviathan are completely new, though there is a strong feeling of updated classics running through the selection. The Ballistus Dreadnought is the Primaris upgrade to the old lascannon and missile launcher-armed Dreadnought, bringing it in line with the melee-flavoured Brutalis and all-rounder Redemptor models, while the Sternguard Veterans and assorted Terminator-armoured models are new and improved versions of Space Marine stalwarts. The Terminator squad in particular embody an “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” philosophy and feel very much like the minis we know and love, just upscaled to fit in with the Primaris Space Marines of the past few years. It’s less pronounced on the Tyranid side, who have a lot more brand new beasties, but the Screamer-Killer and Termagants both have that feeling of just being the way they should have always been.

It is worth making clear here, however, that whilst this book contains all the rules you need to play the new edition of Warhammer 40,000, unless you’re already pretty comfortable with playing wargames and have a decent knowledge of Warhammer 40,000 up to this point, you’re probably going to struggle to get your head around this book. There is a lot of info in here, and whilst you can play a game based off the info here (provided, of course, you have the stats for your armies), it’s not exactly beginner friendly.Huge shifting swarms of Termagants are the mainstay of many Tyranid invasion forces. Armed with ranged bio-organic weapons, these scuttling beasts rush forward to erode their enemy’s defences through sheer weight of numbers. Neurogaunts The Tyranids side of the Leviathan box has more highs and lows than the Space Marines side. Whilst the Space Marines are all great, with a few really great miniatures, the Tyranids are, by and large, okay with one or two more disappointing minis, but also a couple of seriously impressive figures too. Over on the Tyranid side of the box there are only a couple of Characters, as they’ve got a much wider diversity of other units to play with. Both of these are entirely new models, and the first is something of a centrepiece, seen upsetting a Librarian in the Leviathan reveal trailer.
