About this deal

The three final stories are The Mansion of Phantom Pain, The Rib Woman and Memories of Real Poop. The first two stories are the usual dark, horror, excellence with some amazingly gory imagery in The Rib Woman. 4 stars for those two! The last was incredibly daft, about shit literally lol. Could have easily been left out. Junji Ito, as J-kun, has recently built a new house and has invited his fiancée, A-ko, to live with him. Little did he know, his blushing bride-to-be has some unexpected company in tow—Yon, a ghastly-looking family cat, and Mu, an adorable Norwegian forest cat. Despite being a dog person, J-kun finds himself persuaded by their odd cuteness and thus begins his comedic struggle to gain the affection of his new feline friends. Despite its many obvious similarities to Uzumaki, Risa Goto is no Eriko Hatsune - in a good way. She brings considerably more youthful charm and naïve warmth than that to the part of Midori, which the role requires. Interesting also to see a big name like Ryuhei Matsuda ( Gohatto, Blue Spring, 9 Souls etc) appearing in what looks for all the world like a teen-drama TV movie. But then, there are quite a few faces here you're going to recognise - apart from Matsuda himself, there's also Asumi Miwa ( Uzumaki, Ju-on) and Hitomi Miwa ( Eko Eko Azarak III: Misa the Dark Angel, Ju-on, Gore from Outer Space etc) - not a bad line-up for a lowly V-Cinema movie! ;-) In addition to Kazuo Umezu, Shigeru Mizuki, Ito has cited Hideshi Hino, Shinichi Koga, Yasutaka Tsutsui, Edogawa Ranpo and H. P. Lovecraft as being major influences on his work. [19] Ito has stated that Umezu has inspired his storytelling, and Hino has inspired his ability in creating a mood for a work. He has also stated that he admires Guillermo del Toro's work. [20] Collects: The Circus is Here, Gravetown, The Adjacent Window, and both The Bizarre Hikizuri Siblings stories

The Rib Woman is the worst story of the collection. A young woman wants a more shapely figure so opts for rib removal surgery which somehow leads to a rib ghost?! And the book closes out with a short piece of nonfiction where Ito recalls the time he bought fake joke poop as a kid, which was rubbish and a pointless addition. Tomie was adapted into a series of films, beginning in 1999. Several other works of Ito's have subsequently been adapted for film, television and videogaming: One of the down sides of this movie is that it relies ontropes that are seen time and time again in these Japanese horror films like a character never being able to tell anybody the way they feel if they like another character. Then there'sthe typical Japanese town and walk to school that seems to be in absolutely every Japanese movie, manga, or anime ever made that involves school children. There's also the fact that nobody seems to understand anything about what liking or loving people means, and this point blank refusal to accept defeat in love gracefully without committing suicide or dying in some horrible way. Also there's that unfailing trope ofa ghost that doesn't seem to be a ghost until a character realizes much later that it is a ghost. This one also involves the trope of the ghost being a student and seeming absolutely real despite being a ghost. Now, I know Japanese ghosts are different than western ghosts, but this is silly. Aren't there records for these kids in the school? I know this means much less in this movie because of the crazy Midori and maybe Ryuusuke is kind of in her head and comes from her maybe, but there are plenty of other movies where this happens, and it's ridiculous. a b c d A Talk with Junji Ito | Creator Interview | VIZ, archived from the original on June 2, 2022 , retrieved June 2, 2022 I am disgusted for life , will never be able to see insects w/o thinking about this story. Ohhh yess , I promised myself that I will read a lot of JUNJI Ito books in 2021 , and here's the first part of that promise. I am all set to get disgusted and horrified again. AGAIN. Natalie (in Japanese). July 27, 2010. Archived from the original on August 2, 2022 . Retrieved October 6, 2021. Shiver is a collection of short stories by legendary horror manga-ka, Junji Ito. He’s a master of pacing, with a visual imagination that is just indescribable. I would cheerfully put him up against legends like Graham Ingels or Bernie Wrightson--even Basil Wolverton, though he's known more for the grotesque than outright horror--any day. El tomo lo leí en inglés, por lo que no se si todas las traducciones son así, las dos ultimas las puse en inglés no más. The blurb of the story at the end was more scary then the entire premises, if you see Junji Ito somewhere observing you, run away because you might be the concept of his next story. A collection of short stories which have no logic except dream logic (i.e. no logic) but a whole lot of eidetic disgusting body horror and very crazy zoned-out dialogue – I will give you a flavour Acquitted Too Late: Eventually, the townsfolk and Ryusuke's classmates realize that he is not Pretty Boy... after he seemingly sacrificed his life to stop Pretty Boy once and for all. They enter the Despair Event Horizon as ghosts overtake the town. Seers: In the foggy town of Nazumi, there's a local tradition called intersection or crossroads fortunetelling, where someone stands at an intersection hiding their face in some manner and asks the first person passing by a question. We see quite a few of these, with the responses varying from jokes to genuine advice to spiteful cruelty.Marionette Mansion (from House of the Marionettes, あやつりの屋敷 Ayatsuri no Yashiki), a story about a family who rather than deciding what they do or how they live, they instead hire puppeteers to control their actions via strings from the attic of their home.
