About this deal

It was somewhat of a relief for me to see theater going in another direction again, out of the trap of the the voice and music plays. From an Abandoned Work (written in English; produced in London for BBC Third Programme, 1957), first published in Evergreen Review, Volume 1, number 3, 1957, Faber Faber, 1958, published in French as D'un ouvrage abandonne, 1967. The two zones form a roughly circular whole. As though outlined by a trembling hand. Diameter. Careful. Say one furlong.

Observer (London), July 16, 1967; July 15, 1990, p. 53; July 22, 1990, p. 52; November 1, 1992, p. 62. On April 13, 1998, the French Embassy in Washington, DC, hosted the first staged public reading of Eleutheria as translated by Michael Brodsky and directed by Robert McNamara. [2] The first production of Eleutheria took place in 2005, performed by Naqshineh theatre, as translated by Vahid Rahbani and directed by Vahid Rahbani and Mohammadreza Jouze at the City Theatre of Tehran.Ritual living for a memory, and a prayer of sorts to hear the ghostly voice of one lost, which may speak once or twice for a hundred iterations, as the forlorn one carries on.

Never two matters. Never but the one matter. The dead and gone. They dying and the going. From the word go. The word begone. Something rather abstract and odd, with something to do with radio. Something about a voice and music either being together or not being together. I didn't realize it at the time, but now this seems a forerunner/foreshadow of the similarly abstract play "Words and Music" which is coming up soon! On 31 March 1996, BBC Radio 3 broadcast a production directed by Peter Wood with Geraldine McEwan as Winnie, Clive Swift as Willie and Phil Daniels as the Narrator.
