About this deal

Dehumidifiers are proving exceptionally popular this year and our top-rated airers may temporarily sell out. It did a great job of helping to speed up the amount of time it took for our clothes to dry, which is super handy in the winter months when the washing line is out of action. Alternatively an 11mm internal diameter hose can be connected when set on continuous mode and water bildged to a drainage point. As well as removing excess moisture from the air, it can also clean the air, thanks to the built-in HEPA filter. Otherwise, you have a choice of two fan settings, a button to set the required humidity level and a simple timer to turn the unit off after one to eight hours.

As a dehumidifier, it’s hard to fault, working efficiently in small and medium-sized rooms to reduce humidity levels and get rid of mould and moisture. If you’re drying clothes, just place the dehumidifier in the room, making sure the door and windows are all closed. For colder months, it has an auto-defrost function, so, if the temperature drops below freezing, the inside of the dehumidifier will heat up to prevent the water from freezing. With its intelligent control logic system, the Meaco DD8LJ will turn itself off when the target humidity is reached before turning the fan on 30 minutes later and sampling the air again.

Although, it does have an automatic shut-off function, so you don’t have to worry about it overflowing if you forget. it was probably with a sense of desperation over mould in your bathroom that just won’t shift, or window condensation forever puddling on the sills. The water then drips off into a water tank below, while the air is reheated and released into the room. The water tank is situated at the front of the unit and there’s a small window, so you can keep an eye on the water level, but when it’s full the LED light will light up to indicate it needs emptying. It’s really easy to use, too – there are no settings to get used to, just one simple button to switch it on and get it to work. That said, desiccants do push heat back into your home, so you’ll save money on your heating bills – ideal for smaller rooms that suffer from cold. It has a tray capacity of 900ml, and the clear design means you can see when the water needs to be emptied. They can also offer an eco-friendly alternative to a tumble drier, as they help dry your laundry faster by sucking the water out of your wet clothes, without releasing the moisture back into the room.

We found this surprisingly easy to remove from the rear of the machine when full, with a built-in handle for carrying. Including all of the features you'll need to dry clothes and remove moisture from your environment, such as a super ionizer, 3 different fan speeds, a timer, WiFi enabled operation, a large 12L tank, wheels and a humidity indicator light! This is good news for anyone with allergies, as it will remove airborne irritants such as pollen, mould spores, pet dander and even odours. The Pro Breeze is great if you’ve got a smaller space and you want something that doesn’t cost a lot to run,” says Kandola. This isn’t the quietest machine on our list, but the noise isn’t too distracting, so you could have it running in another room without it bothering you too much.A compressor dehumidifier is almost like a mini-fridge that cools the air and converts it into water that you can pour away,” says Ryan Kandola, a dehumidifier expert from Aircon Centre, “whereas desiccants take the air and run it over a rotating flywheel which absorbs the moisture, before heating it so the wheel doesn’t get saturated. It isn’t a light machine, weighing around 15kg, but it does have castors, so pushing it from room to room isn’t an issue. If you have a small space that’s prone to damp air, like a kitchen or a bathroom, you need a dehumidifier that’s compact and quiet.

Don’t get too excited about any claims of silent running – we found that, while actively dehumidifying, it puts out around 50dB on all of its three settings, so you won’t want to sit and watch the TV while it’s on. It’s an excellent dehumidifier for larger spaces and, unlike most compressor models, will work at temperatures of between 5 and 25°C. Its talents don’t end there; it has a laundry mode to dry your washing and a night mode for working quietly while you get some kip, although it’s still not really suitable for lighter sleepers.

If you’re pulling out 15 to 20 litres per day, the dehumidifier needs to have a tank with the capacity to handle it or you will be emptying it out every few hours. If you have pools of water around your windows in the mornings, the Blyss curve moisture trap can help. For example, Meaco’s MeacoDry Arete One 20L costs around 6p per hour to run, based on an electricity rate of 28.
