About this deal

If you needed another stark reminder about the ever rising rate of inflation, and cost of living, seeing a Freddo listed as 26p will be it. True, it is lower than the dizzy heights of 30p which it reached in 2017, but for reference, the last time Freddos were 10p was in 2006 (oh, the good old days). We are experts in medium and small-cap markets, we also keep our community up to date with blue-chip companies, commodities and broader investment stories. This is content that excites and engages motivated private investors. People get so angry about this that it's hard *not* to find the information. Weight changes (similar for Mars) are consistently well recorded and, outside of the huge local store inflations, the RRP is accurate. On the whole though, it's been remarkably close to the appropriate figure - 1p difference this year, in fact - and is a great example of how big business doesn't have to rip us off for our fast-food staples and nostalgic endeavours.

Once upon a time, the cinema used to be something you didn't have to plan an entire weekend's budget around - with adult prices not too long ago sitting just below a fiver, kids were welcomed with something even cheaper. Some of the staples of our childhood are being ruined before our eyes - and ruined well ahead of the rate of inflation. The company has been accused of "shrinkflation" - reducing the size of a product while keeping the price the same to boost profits. However, parent company Mondelez blamed costs associated with the production of its chocolate spiking. There were a couple of dates handily filled in by some old news sources - AOL and BBC included - but we've filled in some of the gaps with first-hand experience and insider knowledge. Although this is not an exact science - well, exact economics - by any stretch of the imagination, the price of a Big Mac is apparently a fantastic indicator of the rate of inflation across the UK over the last 15 years. Proactive financial news and online broadcast teams provide fast, accessible, informative and actionable business and finance news content to a global investment audience. All our content is produced independently by our experienced and qualified teams of news journalists. Since relaunching in the 1990s, the base Freddo rate has always been 10p, although now we can do some of our own maths in line with the ‘Freddonomics’ principle; So next time you hear someone say those words 'How much does a Freddo cost?' maybe offer them a kind word before you answer.

Although this price is still a long way above the price according to inflation since 2000, it's a start. If the price of a Mars Bar had remained consistent with inflation, we'd be sitting at a fairly bitesize 44p.If you think that's bad, just be thankful we aren't Australian. As, whilst our bars may have grown in price and not size, theirs actually shrunk to an underwhelming 12g. Then again, this isn't exactly surprising behaviour from Cadbury, considering they recently shrank the size of its Dairy Milk sharing bars by 10 per cent - but did not reduce the price.

New data released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) on 21 January showed that over 200 products, including chocolate brands Maltesers, M&Ms and Minstrels, all shrank in size between September 2015 and June 2017. Though some of us were more into football, music or those weird girly magazines, let's not pretend any of us were Dandy readers - we were Beano readers, and one of the last generations to truly appreciate the age of the comic. As Andrew Burns of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy added: “A pound is buying less, yet demand is increasing. I hate to use the phrase, but it’s a perfect storm of uncertainty and financial challenges all going in the wrong direction.” The product was invented in 1930 by Harry Melbourne, an 18-year-old MacRobertson's employee. [1] In 1967, MacRobertson's was sold to Cadbury, which incorporated Freddo Frogs into its own product range. [2] The chocolate was originally sold only in Australia, but has been introduced into several other markets.Freddo Frogs became part of the Cadbury product range in 1967, when MacRobertson's was sold to Cadbury. In Australia, Freddo Frogs are manufactured in Ringwood, Victoria and Claremont, Tasmania. Since the success of Freddo, an alternative chocolate named Caramello Koala (formerly Caramello Bear), also made by Cadbury, has been created. Caramello Koala is the only flavour in which the chocolate is not shaped like "Freddo".
