And then later in the book, when she tried developing a backbone, she bothered me because she felt like a moody and insolent teenager with the way she kept talking back and having sass while still being a big ditz. I think the magic and the different cities/races were all well explained and kept me interested in the story. The main languages are based off Italian and Gaelic, and the glossary is perfect to reference when in doubt. When they announced that they were doing book two and three, I figured I should read it before investing.I glance from my grandfather to the commander, whose posture is as taut as a bow string and yet whose face ripples with nerves.

Pearson will devour this epic fantasy romance full of deceit, betrayal, and false loves that could swallow a person whole. You know, what with her being persona non grata for not turning her back on her daughter, or me, however sordid we both may be.The story I quite enjoyed, however I will not be purchasing the sequel in Audible because of the very strange narration. We have politics, a war, magic, multiple supernatural creatures and more… (and all of them were well done). Also, the MMC is supposed to be this big baddie but he just lets the FMC step all over him and there’s just something about a guy that goes for the whiny girls that is just SUCH a turnoff. With a richly imagined world, a dark and luscious story and characters that were brilliantly done, House of Beating Wings was a phenomenal start to a new series!
