About this deal

The author pens a beautiful story that includes an exploration of the family trees of the two leads, their character profiles, and maps of Billericay and Barry with key landmarks and key sights. As eight-year-olds, they had sworn an oath on a curly wrapper vowing to always be friends. A decade later, we see them about to celebrate graduating from their A levels and the start of their adult lives with a trip to several beautiful islands in Greece.

Female characters that cross over many generations always makes for a great read, and in this novel from Ruth Jones, her latest that is no exception. To do this she must locate her stranged daughter Alys but she risks betraying her grandaughter's trust in doing so. Elin isn't forgiving when it comes to her mother, she can't just forget all the past hurt, secrets and lies so easily. Beca, Elin's daughter is completely oblivious to all of it. Like all teenagers she is completely immersed in the ups and downs of teenage life, holding secrets of her own and not really paying much attention to anything else, especially the bores of family dynamics. This is a wonderful story about the relationships between different generations of women within the same family. The conflicts and emotions are real and raw and you’ll find yourself relating to so many arguments and points of tension. Ruth Jones: Not too much; like I mentioned, New Quay is a physical place that was quite an inspiration, and when I was writing about Dylan’s Quay, I would imagine that place quite a lot in my head. There’s little things that happen in the book that I’ve drawn from – there’s a particular story I’d taken from Justin Davies who played my son in Stella. Sometimes you collect things like a magpie and you think “Ooh, I’ll keep that!”

The end of this story is incredibly moving and brought me to tears (and I have never cried over a book before). Ruth Jones draws you in and tugs on the heartstrings in a beautiful way Jones's trademark warmth and humour suffuse the novel with comedy and pathos, making for a heart-warming, entertaining and, at times, deeply moving story' The Observer She would then get into theatre and in 1999 made her debut on the silver screen as she made an appearance in “Fat Friends,” the popular ITV series. It was while she was working there that she met James Corden, her future comedy partner. Another classic from Ruth Jones. She has this ability to make you believe you are living the life of all the characters. The good and the bad. The flawed the messed up parts alongside the highs. Taking some time to get into ending up my favourite of the three I have read by the end. The sad beautiful tragic ending. The affair had threatened to destroy their marriage and hence when Kate and Callum are reunited once more, lives and marriages are on the line once again. They just cannot stay away from each other and trouble is not far away from them. Love, mess, secrets; this story of four generations of women is filled with Ruth Jones's warmth and wisdom.' JOJO MOYES But to do that she must find her daughter Alys - the only person who can help to put things right. And when she finds her - if she does - she risks betraying granddaughter Elin. Who is far less forgiving of the past, with its hurts and secrets and lies.

Gavin and Stacey” is Ruth Jones’ most popular work that introduces Stacey and Gavin. Stacey happens to be your everyday girl from South Wales while Gavin is your everyday boy from Essex. Ruth Jones: Yes, I like that. I really do. I’m glad that it comes across; I do try, and it makes me feel better about life when I write in that way. I think there’s enough nastiness in the world as it is, and I don’t want to add to it! So yes, my writing is pretty gentle, I guess. I tend not to have villains, and I still believe in the whole thing that there is a little bit of good in the worst of us and a little bit of bad in the best of us. Ruth Jones: Very proud! I’m looking forward to my mum reading it, as it’s dedicated to her. She received an advanced copy and must have read the dedication because she called me and said, “You give me so much joy too!”
