This one grabbed me from the beginning and never let up. I loved that nothing is as it seems with this one and there are twists and turns galore with such a dark, creepy undertone to it. I always love a good serial killer story and this one was like none I have read before. Every time I thought I had worked out what was going on, some new twist would pop up to throw me off.The latest victim is able to escape, and identifies the killer as Randall Thompson, a teacher at his high school. With Randall in prison, all should be good...except Defense attorney Robert Kavin doesn’t believe Randall is guilty. Robert decides to represent him pro bono, but what makes things more complex is that Robert’s son, Gabe, was a victim of the Bloody Heart Killer. Psychiatrist Dr. Gwen Moore has made a career treating killers, predators and those who have impulses to kill. She is considered an expert in her field, but will that be enough? When one of the victims father decides to defend the accused killer...I kept wondering what does he know that we dont?!

And the interesting fact: one of the victim’s father, defense attorney Robert Kavin accepts to take Randall’s case because he thinks the guy is innocent. The story. The Bloody Heart Killer is terrorizing the teenage boys of Los Angeles. A suspect is caught, but (gasp!) the father of one of BHK’s victims steps in to be his defense attorney. Said attorney enlists the help of a psychiatrist (who he’s also currently boinking) to do a profile on the killer since he’s sure it’s not his client. So what if the lines between business and pleasure were blurry? Robert and Gwen had spent a night together, and it might go against the code of conduct. Gwen is ready to ignore the temptation and keep it professional. But how can she when there’s a growing tension between them? And how will they handle it when both of them are hiding something from each other? There’s one thing for sure. Things were about to take a sinister turn. Dr. Gwen Moore is a psychiatrist who is an expert on killers, she treats dangerous predators every day, and she's hired to profile The Bloody Heart Killer, a serial killer who kidnaps, tortures, strangles and mutilates teenage boys. Why on earth did Rob treat Gwen so well given his intentions to kill her? For example he gave her a ring that meant a lot to him. Did anyone else raise an eyebrow when Rob gave Gwen the ring, slept with her and then questioned her about John? The Bloody Heart Killer has taken six victims already. When his seventh victim escapes and points the finger at a local teacher as the serial killer, the police are satisfied. But Robert Kavin, the father of a deceased victim, doesn't believe it. So he asks Dr. Gwen Moore, a psychiatrist who specializes in treating killers, to step in and help. But the more she digs, the more questions she has. Because it seems everyone involved is hiding secrets. So what is the real truth? Gwen was the protagonist and a psychologist specializing on violent tendencies and obsessions, she had a meaningless encounter with Robert the same day two of her patients were buried. Gwen believed that she responsible for both of their deaths. Why was she so inclined to assume responsibility for their homicides? I'm Kristin. I always have a book with me wherever I go! I can't believe i'm going to say this, but I wish there was like no 'romance' in this book at all, cause it was dry af at best. Everytime Gwen and that defense lawyer got it on (sorry I already forgot his name) I was shaking these dumbasses that there is still a mystery to solve.I loved how you reviewed this! Such a clever way to frame it to avoid possible spoilers and still tells us what to expect from the book. I hope to try this one some day. I just started Every Last Secret today. Thanks! That means so much to me! It might still be on NG, if you’re interested. I am hoping Every Last Secret works out for you. I’m a little concerned about one of the pieces of it, but I think you might enjoy the way it’s done. I guess I’ll find out! Gwen’s relationship to Rob. Despite being a psychiatrist, she was definitely not the sharpest when it came to Rob, how could she have possibly overlooked and accepted his actions?!

Gwen Moore is a psychiatrist who specializes in treating those with violent fantasies, some of which come to fruition. While dealing with a particularly stressful situation regarding a client, the state of California is unrest due to a serial killer. The Bloody Heart Killer targets male teenagers, tortures them, and leaves them for dead in a very gruesome fashion. Defense attorney Robert Kavin is a still-traumatized father whose own son fell prey to the BH Killer. Convinced of Thompson’s innocence, he steps in to represent him. Now Robert wants Gwen to interview the accused, create a psych profile of the killer and his victims, and help clear his client’s name. But why is he so sure Randall Thompson is not the Bloody Heart Killer? That the seventh boy, Scott Harden, is lying about what truly happened to them? So why is Robert Kavin, the still traumatized father of one of the Victims, representing the accused.?The Blood Heart Killer kidnaps the boys...keeps them for months...then murders them and carves his signature heart on their chest...OMG...7 boys...yet one lives to tell about it...or does he?? Which is convenient, because the same day I started reading The Good Lie, I got the ARC of A.R. Torre’s newest novel A Familiar Stranger, coming in September 2022. And I couldn’t be more excited about it! A complimentary copy was provided by Thomas & Mercer via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. But because it’s easy to make a connection with her and you can see yourself in her shoes, you think more in terms of – you better have a plan to get out of that. Rather than – can’t wait to see you paying for it.
