About this deal

The LG 34GP83A-B is compatible with both FreeSync and G-Sync for both AMD and Nvidia GPUs. It is always nice to have the freedom to choose between the two brands since both are pumping out strong contenders in the high-end GPU market. Input lag sits at 4ms at the maximum refresh rate, so there is no need to worry about delays while gaming. Thoughts on the LG 34GP83A-B Further, the 3440×1440 screen resolution results in a perfect pixel density on the monitor’s 34″ sized screen. Restructured the article to reflect current market prices and availability; added the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 as the 'Best Ultrawide Monitor' and renamed the LG 38WN95C-W as the 'Best Upper Mid-Range Monitor'; removed the LG 34GP83A-B because it's hard to find, and removed the AOC CU34G2X because it went up in price; renamed the Gigabyte M34WQ as the 'Best Budget Monitor' and added the Dell S3422DWG.

The Odyssey G5 has one HDMI and one DisplayPort for connectivity, so you’ll have no problem hooking up your PC. The display can be tilted, but its stand isn’t height adjustable with is a little disappointing considering how premium the actual screen is. Response time is another important consideration when choosing a monitor, especially for fast-paced activities such as gaming, sports, and action movies. Ghosting, the blurring or trailing of fast-moving objects on the screen, can be distracting and negatively impact the viewing experience. In our years of gaming, we have tried and tested various monitors and encountered the annoyance of ghosting, which can negatively impact the overall viewing experience. Since both – the difference between 8-bit color and 10-bit color – and the difference between 144Hz and 160Hz is not all that noticeable in games, this isn’t really worth stressing over. You will find all the standard image settings as well as some advanced adjustment tools such as color temperature fine-tuning (in 500K increments), four gamma presets and 6-axis hue/saturation.FreeSync is supported over both HDMI (48-85Hz) and DisplayPort (48-160Hz), but for the G-SYNC Compatible mode, you’ll need to use DisplayPort and have a compatible GPU (GTX 10-series or newer). Price & Similar Monitors

Most ultrawide displays have a 34-inch screen size, but there are larger ones up to 49 inches, which are known as super ultrawide monitors. On top of that, these displaystend to have curved screens to bring the edges closer toyou. When looking for an ultrawide monitor, it's important to consider what you need it for and your budget, as there are options available at different price points. This display’s key feature is a peak refresh rate of 165Hz, which is the highest speed you’ll find in this guide. It supports HDR (high dynamic range), which guarantees you’ll see vibrant colors, and is compatible with AMD’s FreeSync Premium technology. Oddly, this monitor isn’t compatible with Nvidia’s G-Sync, which is its only real downside when it comes to gaming performance.

Display and Performance

Response times for the LG 34GP83A-B are excellent overall when you are playing at its maximum 160Hz refresh rate. There is no need to use its Overdrive feature beyond its Normal setting since it is practically blur-free. Be wary of setting the latter too high since it will induce unnecessary overshoot with no noticeable improvement to the monitor’s already excellent motion handling. Then again, VA monitors have disadvantages of their own such as significantly slower pixel response time speed, and they don’t have as wide viewing angles nor as consistent colors.

At the time of this writing, it’s the only 3440×1440 ultrawide gaming monitor with official certification. If you compare its feature set to its price, Dell’s S3422DWG is the clear winner in the ultrawide monitor category. It may sound small, but having a USB-C PD port puts Philips’ 343E2E in a class of its own if you use it with a laptop. It seems that newer revisions of the LG 34GN850 feature the same design as the LG 34GP83A, so there’s no notable difference between the two models anymore. In addition, the screen has a matte anti-glare coating, which eliminates reflections, but doesn’t make the picture appear too grainy while the steep 1900R curvature adds to the overall immersion. Dell’s S3422DWG offers a compelling mix of features and performance at an impressively low price, which makes it the best value in this guide. Color Gamut refers to the range of colors that a monitor can display. A wide color gamut means the monitor can display more colors, creating a more vibrant and lifelike image. Resolution: An ultrawide monitor’s resolution (measured in pixels), determines how much information can be viewed on it at one time. Most of the ultrawide monitors have a high resolution of 3440 x 1400, which means they’re capable of displaying a very clear picture. We've tried different monitor resolutions and observed that a higher resolution provides a sharper and more detailed picture, resulting in a better overall gaming experience. A higher resolution means that the games will look more detailed, and you'll be able to see everything more clearly, including text quality, texture quality, aliasing (jagged edges), and HUD elements.

The LG 34GP83A-B’ covers a little over 100% sRGB and around 80% DCI-P3 which is slightly lower than the 34GN850. However, default accuracy is better since the deltaE average is only at 2.21 versus the 2.76 we got from the latter. The monitor is good to go with only a few minor tweaks so plug and play gamers will be better off with this model. The LG 34GP83A-B is the successor to the popular LG 34GK950F gaming monitor. It features a similar 34″ 3440×1440 144Hz Nano IPS panel, but with a notably faster 1ms GtG response time speed and certified G-SYNC compatibility. While there are some ultrawide monitors in the mid-range price category, like the LG 34GP83A-B, most of them don't offer any performance advantages over the models you can get in the lower mid-range price category, like the Dell S3422DWG, which is very good overall and performs well for different uses. It has a 34-inch screen, so it offers less space than the LG 40WP95C-W, but it's still big enough to open windows side-by-side, and it has an 1800R curve that helps bring the edges of the screen closer to you.

 LG 34GP83A-B Specifications

This display was designed with gamers in mind, which is why it has a peak refresh rate of 144Hz, support for AMD FreeSync, and support for HDR. Again, support for Nvidia’s G-Sync is noticeably absent. Dell introduced some additional gaming features with this display that we haven’t seen in other monitors. In the minority of games that support 10-bit color depth, you can drop the refresh rate to 144Hz, but for the most part, we recommend going with 160Hz and 8-bit color depth. Based on our analysis, the LG 34" 34GN850-B and LG 34" 34GP83A-B monitors both have a refresh rate of 1 ms, which we found was excellent for gaming. Users with colorimeters can get better results since the dE average can be lowered to around 0.98. that score is better than the more expensive variant, but do take note that these averages can vary between every unit. This also tells us that the two most likely use the same panels but are factory-tuned differently.
