About this deal

MusicRadar verdict: The iLoud MTM is a remarkable feat of audio engineering in bringing such a surgical level of detail at in such a small format. It makes an ideal choice for those with crowded desks, and those who want to dive deeper into their mix. The web says Moving away from the sweet spot brought about the expected changes in phase and image clarity, but didn’t have much of an effect on the overall tone. There are three calibration settings to choose from. IK’s proprietary ARC calibration system compensates for room acoustics using the measurement microphone. With a total power of 100 W, the maximum sound pressure level is 103 dB. Thanks to the on-board DSP, the speaker sounds natural and realistic. It produces solid bass notes. This is far less hit-and-miss than using the presets as it really does tailor the speakers to the room they are in. It’sall done via a series of audio chirps played through each speaker via a set process of placing the mic in four positions around where your head would be.

I wouldn’t use the IK Multimedia MTM monitors for super loud listening. They’re not made for that. As expected, cranking up the volume caused the red LED to flash, and there was obvious distortion. We tested the speakers in a very small home studio. Fortunately, the acoustics of the studio were ideal, with leather membrane acoustic absorption panels and QRD diffusers on the walls. The compact IK Multimedia monitors sounded subdued compared to the width and depth of the larger, three-way Dynaudio Core 59 monitors, although there was no shortage of punchy bass. We heard extended tones, silky smooth, tight mids and controlled bass. Comparing them to the much cheaper JBLs, the MTMs are much more defined in the midrange. ConclusionThe calibration setting—FLAT by default—offers options of a preset DESK filter that bumps the lower midrange or a saved user-calibrated setting. This can be created using the ARC System 3 calibration software or triggered without software by holding the calibration button down for three seconds. Please Standby

The Precision series also achieves impressive time coherence across the spectrum, nearly reaching peak theoretical performance. This ensures that all frequencies arrive at your ears simultaneously, which is one of the main appeals of high-end 3-way monitors. IK claims the cohesive time alignment of the Precision series contributes to a detailed transient response, reduced ear fatigue and improved mix translation. Keep in mind all three Precision monitors are 2-way designs, so incorporating a sub will require careful, measured calibration to achieve the same level of time coherence described above. The optional remote control allows you to store four different monitor ‘voices’ and toggle between them on the fly. This could be handy if you want to A/B the accuracy of the Precision monitors against another style of your choosing, offering a whole new perspective while mixing. Final ThoughtsDeveloped and handmade in Italy, the iLoud Precision series comes in three sizes: 5″, 6.5″, and MTM (midrange-tweeter-midrange), which features two 5″ midrange drivers. For reference, the Micro and standard MTM models feature 3″ and 3.5″ drivers, respectively. IKM boasts that the speakers have a completely flat, neutral response, but in fact the frequency response can be calibrated to suit the room, so this means they provide accurate, flat sound regardless of the room. Maximum SPL @ 1 m, playing one speaker on axis: 103 dB from 200 Hz sine wave, 95 dB at 100 Hz sine wave, 93 dB pink noise
