However, I don’t recommend using the tone controls to their extremes. I noticed that maximum bass volume will introduce mild distortion. You may also want to consider how many output sections the headphone amp has. Depending on what you need to use your new headphone amp for, you may need to have output to several different sets of headphones or even speakers as well. A headphone amp that allows you to control the output to these different channels will be a handy feature to have. Sound control The Behringer Microamp HA400 is the perfect choice if you’re restricted by a budget. This particular headphone amp will have all the basics covered so that you can listen to high quality music whenever you want. Then we have the EQ options, which do offer quite a bit of range, possibly more than is needed. With just a slight turn of the bass dial, the increment in the low ranges is quite noticeable, adding that extra thump when needed. The treble dial seems to be a little less apparent. By this I don’t mean that it is not more than enough when needed, just that the changes aren’t quite as exaggerated as with the bass knob. You will need to use the supplied Micro-USB cable to power it; we recommend using the PC-USB port/5V power adapter.
