About this deal

With oral story telling, the goal isn’t to transmit daily events but rather the morals, stories and traditions of the people. This was done by a caste of people for whom this was their primary role and often their status in such caste was determined by their ability to convey those stories accurately, where one elder / priest etc making an error would most often be corrected by others. Considering such tellings also tended to include survival critical information aswell such as crop cycles et cetera, errors would result in real penalties for errors.

This crater-like anomaly is entirely terrestrial and has a diameter of 50 kilometers (30 miles). It is made up of a series of uniform ripples. In the 1960s, Gemini astronauts used this stunning ancient geological formation as a landmark. The Eye of the Sahara, also known as the Richat Structure, was initially thought to be a massive impact crater by geologists.

While there is consensus among philologists and classicists regarding the story’s fictional character, there is still much debate as to what could have served as its inspiration. Plato is known to have freely borrowed some of his allegories and metaphors from older traditions, which led a number of scholars to speculate that Atlantis was inspired by Egyptian records of the Thera eruption, the Sea People’s invasion, or the Trojan War. There have been many other ‘parallels’ pointed to by the proponents of the “Eye of the Sahara = Atlantis” theory, some of which appear to be even more far-fetched. Five-time EMMY Award winning writer Paul Wagner, for example, claims nonetheless that King Atlas, aka King of Atlantis, and namer of the Atlantic Ocean is the same person as Atlas of Mauritania; or that Herodotus’s map from 450 BC places Atlantis in the same place as the Eye. a b c Abdeina, El Houssein; Bazin, Sara; Chazot, Gilles; Bertrand, Hervé; Le Gall, Bernard; Youbi, Nasrrddine; Sabar, Mohamed Salem; Bensalah, Mohamed Khalil; Boumehdi, Moulay Ahmed (3 November 2021). Once in Ouadane, you can use a good-conditioned 4×4 jeep or go for a hot air balloon or an airplane ride for a bird’s view, but it will cost you more. There is no restriction, but you should visit during the day.

One of these features is Mount Atlas, and one of these peoples is the tribe of the Atlantes (= the people of Mount Atlas). But Herodotos never mentions any place called Atlantis. Herodotos’ map in fact wasn’t drawn by Herodotos. Jimmy claims that an event that lasted 1,200 years “precisely” matched an event that was supposed to have happened in one day 100 years after the Younger Dryas ended. Also – there is no reason to think that the Younger Dryas affected the equatorial regions (the Richat structure is at 21 deg latitude). So really, it was in the wrong place and the wrong time for the Younger Dryas to be significant. This is a forced fit that is not compelling at all, but Jimmy thinks it is too amazing a coincidence not to be evidence. Ancient artefacts: The Richat Structure is not known for its archaeology or ancient ruins, yet some artefacts have been found there. The Visiting Atlantis documentary and the Indie Archaeology video feature artefacts in makeshift museums in the desert near to the Richat. These include stone spheres with a flat side, stone arrowheads claimed to be 10,000 years old, and copper artefacts. These may not prove that an advanced ancient culture existed, but they do suggest that the area was inhabited in ancient times.

The Sahara is the largest hot desert in the world, dubbed ‘the greatest desert’. It stretches across much of present-day north Africa, and is comparable in size to the area of the United States or China. So how come some people think that the Sahara was once the location of the lost island of Atlantis? Cailleux, A. (1962). "El Richat: dôme arasé, surbaissé ou cratère bombé?". Notes Africaines. 93: 27–29.

In Plato’s Critias and Timaeus dialogues, he describes Atlantis as three alternating zones of water and two of land, which could easily be transposed onto the physical structure of the Eye that we know today. The processes that formed the structure has been theorised to be the result of either a meteoric impact, or a deep magmatic intrusion, the latter of which is supported with high-resolution airborne magnetic data and gravity data to reinforce the intrusion hypothesis.Novella, Stephen (19 November 2018). "No – Atlantis Has Not Been Discovered in North Africa". NeuroLogica . Retrieved 8 November 2023. The most interesting part of this is King Atlas. Interestingly enough, there was also a King Atlas of the Mauri people that occupied Mauritania and other areas nearby. Though he’s technically a legend, he is commonly mentioned as the first King of Mauritania. Articles about King Atlas of Mauritania don’t mention King Atlas of Atlantis. Plato describes how Atlas, who was Poseidon's first born of ten brothers, was appointed king to rule over all ten provinces of Atlantis. Coincidentally, Atlas was also the name of the first king of Mauritania, West Africa - the location of the Richat Structure - overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and having the Atlas mountains to the north. A map by Herodotus from 430 BC names that specific area Atlantes. 2. The accurate shape and size Thirdly, there may be some evidence that sea water was once in the Mauritanian desert, but this does not explain how the Richat Structure – as Atlantis – could have sunk beneath the waves, yet it now lies on a continental landmass, some 400 metres (1300 ft) above sea level and 500 km (310 miles) inland. A fair amount of movement of land and/or sea would be needed to create the circumstances of Atlantis as described by Plato.

Also, while indeed many of these artifacts have been found on the outermost depression of this structure, they are generally absent in its innermost depressions. In fact, neither recognizable midden deposits, nor man-made structures have been recognized and reported from the Richat Structure so far. What a lot of people forget is that the story of Atlantis is actually a war story where Athens defeats Atlantis. Hübner plugged in the clues—essentially it was like a game of Battleship, [in which] whatever area had the most pegs sinks the battleship, or in this case discovers Atlantis. He theorizes that Atlantis was a little bit south of Casablanca in modern Morocco.

This video shows what Richat structure is and its formation, which will give you a hint on understanding it more, including how it formed. 1. Earlier symmetric dome erosion theory A recent theory states that the Richat structure formed around 100Ma as the Pangea subcontinent separated, creating Africa, South America, and the Atlantic Ocean. Lithostratigraphy correlation has shown it. During this plate tectonic movement process, massive volcanic activities involved a Cretaceous age complex of alkaline igneous magma. Acheulean tools were produced during the Lower Palaeolithic era across Africa and much of West Asia, South Asia, East Asia and Europe, first developed about 1.76 million years ago and derived from the more primitive Oldowan technology associated with Homo habilis. Written in 360 BC, the book details the travels of the wise man Solon to Egypt where he met a priestess. The priestess referenced a great civilization where her people fled after a great cataclysm. Their capital was lush with shrubbery and organized by three circles of land that surrounded two circles of water (Plato, 1925). To the north lay a great range of mountains and a southern-flowing river that ran through, or just above the city. However, the priestess described that 9,000 years prior, the city was swallowed by the sea.
