About this deal

No pots of boiling water, microwaves or clunky equipment, just a tidy little handheld unit that does it all for you. During the winter, most of us occasionally skip shaving and cover up with opaque tights or cozy pants. I literally had the biggest smile ever on my face as I held the finished strip in my hand, mammal-like fuzzy from my copious amounts of leg hair, and as I looked down at my gorgeously silky smooth shin I couldn’t help but laugh triumphantly.

By the time I got to the second leg I waxed my legs in straight lines from one point all of the way back round and it was far quicker and efficient. This method of hair removal is a form of epilation, which is removing hair at the root, rather than just the visible portion above the skin.I have to admit I was nervous as anything about doing the first strip because my first and only experience of home waxing as a teen left me petrified, and since then I’ve only ever been waxed at a salon, but not very often as I mostly shave. The kit comes with a few wax strips, but I highly recommend purchasing additional ones, especially if you’re waxing a large area. This removes some of the oils on your skin that can interfere with the wax, and also helps open up your pores so the hair comes out much easier. This year, I was given the chance to wage war on my leg hair with a new piece of artillery: Veet’s Easywax Electrical Roll-On. From that point on I could hardly contain my excitement as I stuck, rubbed, whipped and stripped both of my lower legs.

The salon-grade wax is specially formulated with natural beeswax making it suitable for all skin types, and it can cling to hairs as short as 2mm, with skin remaining smooth for up to four weeks. As a rule, you want to angle the applicator so that the entire surface of the rolling head comes into contact with your skin as you apply it. I’d left my leg hair a few weeks to get it to just over 1cm and it was the ideal length to catch in the wax and come out easily. Luckily these practices are something out of the past, thanks to devices such as the Easy Wax Electrical Roll-On Kit.

The great thing about this system is that it keeps the wax warm, so you don’t have to keep reheating and dealing with wax that’s too hot or too cold. I’ve tried at-home waxing in the past (the kind with a pot of wax and a Popsicle stick), but I ended up spilling it on my arm, resulting in a bald patch that lasted for weeks. It takes the hairs up to four weeks to make themselves known again (as opposed to the 2-3 days after shaving) and when they come back you should notice that they’re finer, keeping your skin softer and smoother for longer. Veet’s Electrical Roll-On is the cleanest home waxing system I’ve used, and I’m happy to say that I escaped the experience with all my arm hair. The wax has a consistency similar to cool maple syrup, and it goes on pink, which makes it easy to see where you need to apply the strips.

It’s recommended that you remove the wax as quickly as possible to get the best results, so after standing my handset back on the base I pressed a strip ontop of the wax, rubbing the back of it with my hand to ensure it was well stuck, then held the lowest part of the strip, took a deep breath and whipped it quickly upwards towards my knee. It takes a bit of practice to learn the best way to angle the applicator against your skin for even distribution. For the best results, it helps to exfoliate the day before, wash the area with warm water and dry it carefully immediately before waxing. There are individual wax types for legs, arms, underarms and bikini line, with sensitive options also available to suit your every need. The Veet Easy Wax promised to deliver salon results at home so we’ll see how this adult newbie gets on.

Holding the bottom of the strip, very quickly and in one swift motion, pull the strip back on itself against the direction your hair grows. By the time I was done, the roll-on head had built up wax in the corners and on the outside of the applicator.

Then I suddenly despised it, and even though my mother urged me to avoid shaving because “it’s not as much fun as it looks,” true to my stubborn personality, I ignored her. Granted I wasn’t the most logical waxer, as my placement of wax was a little sporadic to start with, so I ended up finishing by going over odd triangular patches that I’d missed. If you’re looking for a neat and tidy system of hair removal, wax is never the first option that comes to mind.
