About this deal

As registered nurses, we all work in the context of continual change, challenging environments, different models of care delivery, shifting demographics, innovation and rapidly evolving technologies. And many of us have long, interdisciplinary careers that take us through multiple specialisms and settings. Many healthcare facilities and NHS trusts in the UK are providing house training and workshops on holistic healthcare. This training will help nurses to gain specialization in holistic care. What are the challenges and strategies in implementing holistic care approaches in the UK?

Holistic healthcare embraces the importance of emotions, beliefs, experiences and relationships, and how family, community and the surrounding world support health or harm it. nothing can be fully understood unless one sees the whole system of which it is part – and the whole is always more than the sum of its parts. Blaizot A, Vergnes JN, Nuwwareh S, Amar J and Sixou M (2009) Periodontal diseases and cardiovascular events: meta-analysis of observational studies. Int Dent J 59(4): 197-209 However, many holistic dentists continue with the removal procedure using strict protocols. These include the use of rubber dam, high volume ejection tips, air purification systems and nasal hoods that provide an alternative air source during the treatment (Colson, 2012). Nursing professionals who are interested in providing holistic care may choose to get training in certain additional therapies like aromatherapy, reflexology, acupuncture, or massage therapy.

For many people, the word holistic in a healthcare context refers vaguely to natural therapies. But for us, holistic healthcare is about better understanding ourselves, the world and our place in it. A definition of holism might state: BPA is a chemical added to many products and is found in polycarbonate plastic and epoxy resins. It is used to coat the inner lining of canned foods to prevent metal corrosion and is added to plastics to increase their strength. We don’t always know what people will ‘present with’ when they are referred to our services. We are providing care for and with people who have increasingly complex and varied health and wellbeing needs. As a strong and cheap material with good longevity, amalgam continues to play an important part of NHS dentistry. There is limited evidence to suggest the mercury within amalgams poses direct risk to health.

Another example is the Future Nurse standards. We consulted on these new standards in 2017 and we published the final version in 2018. This year the first cohort of students graduated from programmes approved against these standards and joined our register. Now, we’re planning further collaboration with our stakeholders to evaluate these standards, in keeping with our dynamic approach to setting standards. Dahiya P, Kamal R, Luthra RP, Mishra R and Saini G (2012) Miswak: A periodontist’s perspective. J Ayurveda Integr Med 3(4): 184-7To implement a holistic care approach in the UK nurses, need to overcome several challenges. Some of the challenges and strategies include, Conducting an audit voluntarily is a key way to demonstrate accountability for AI systems. Enterprises opening themselves up to impartial scrutiny is vital to ensuring that systems conform to best practices and legal requirements, and that those involved in their design, development, and distribution are held accountable for the system’s use, outputs, and impact. Why we took this approach

Mohammadi Nejad S, Özgüneş H and Başaran N (2017) Pharmacological and Toxicological Properties of Eugenol. Turk J Pharm Sci 14(2): 201-6In the UK some universities and organizations provide postgraduate courses or master’s degree programs in holistic nursing. These courses give complete training in holistic care. In learning a little of their beliefs and practices, we may be able to better understand and communicate with all patients that walk through the door. References In organisations (e.g. a hospital or a company) a holistic approach would also focus on co-creating systems that support wellbeing, including the wellbeing of hard-pressed workers. In healthcare, users’ experiences and outcomes always depend on a mix of technical skill and compassionate care. Holistic healthcare pays attention to the whole person – in both physical and non-physical aspects.

There’s always a balance around the level of commonality there needs to be between the different fields of nursing practice. There does need to be a specialist component which indicates the knowledge and skills required for a particular field of nursing practice. We also need to reflect what all nurses need to know and be able to do, to be competent practitioners able to care for people with various needs. For example, physical health conditions cause the majority of deaths among people with severe mental illness, and physical disease among those with mental illness is rising 1. In holistic caring, while developing care plans patient preferences, values, and goals are taken into account. By putting the patient first, the care is aligned with the individual’s specific needs. Kanduti D, Sterbenk P and Artnik B (2016) FLUORIDE: A REVIEW OF USE AND EFFECTS ON HEALTH. Mater Sociomed Apr;28(2): 133-7Healthcare systems across the developed world are struggling to cope with the costs of healthcare; people are living longer and medical treatments are becoming more complicated and expensive. Lifestyle and environmentally related diseases, especially type 2 diabetes, heart disease, certain cancers and autoimmune diseases are on the rise. One person in six (in the UK) now experiences poor mental health. Many patients nevertheless are still unmotivated to engage in their own self-care, and in high-pressured systems doctors may tend to focus more on prescribing than on individual needs. Preventing and mitigating the risks of AI systems is becoming increasingly important to protect against avoidable harm. Holistic AI’s Risk Mitigation Roadmaps provide an easy-to-use guide to mitigating these risks to start enterprises on their Risk Management journey. Benefits to the organisation using the technique Pampering spas offer decadent indulgence, medical clinics provide diagnostic reassurance but the joy of a wellness retreat is that it places as much importance on the emotional and mental condition as physical concerns, providing the space for a 360-degree exploration of your wellbeing. It’s also on your terms — the broader definition of this style of wellness break leads to an interesting range of interpretations. While the most robust evaluations are those carried out by impartial, independent third-parties, internal efforts are an important step in the right direction nonetheless and can be a first-step towards ensuring that the appropriate safeguards are in place and that they are effective at mitigating risks, reducing potential legal liability and improving the trust in the evaluated systems.
