The wheel is a classic favorite amongst hamster owners for its affordability and quality. It has been specially designed to be quite silent when a hamster runs on it, but the wheel does start to get squeaky after it has been run on over time by hamsters, but the sound can easily be fixed by oiling the turning axel with a natural lubricant like coconut oil. While many hamsters enjoy using this, I find, when I give them both the saucer and the upright wheel, they primarily use the upright wheel, but they seem to enjoy the variety of the saucer once in a while. Acrylic wheels can be a bit heavy I wouldn’t recommend them for robos or small dwarves. Bigger Dwarves and larger hamsters seem to do fine on acrylic wheels.

To solve this light-weight base issue I simply place this wheel in a large sand bath and it keeps the wheel from moving around while my hamster uses it.Pros: inexpensive, easy to clean, widely available, a great addition to a play area or sand bath, hamsters seem to actually enjoy using these! The Best Hamster Wheels for All Sizes FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) 

Please note- this is not the wheel to get if you are expecting to attach it to your wired cage. This wheel technically can attach to a wire cage, but must be done with the base still attached… defeating the purpose. If you want a wheel you can attach to a wire cage I suggest the Exotic Nutrition Silent Runner, the Kaytee Silent Spinner (Giant) or the Prevue Quiet Wheel. This wheel isn’t totally silent but is silent enough that it didn’t wake me up (and I’m a fairly light sleeper & I keep my hamsters in my room).

The 6 1/2” and 10” size both have fairly narrow running areas and flimsy stands. In the past I used the 6 1/2” and 10” sizes for my robos and attached them to the sides of their Kaytee SUPER Habitat cages (link to Pet Mountain). My robos often flipped and fell off of both sizes (although 10” was definitely better).Solid hamster wheels: These are the safest and most common hamster wheels that come in a variety of different colors and sizes with a flat running surface. Size: It comes in many sizes, including a mini - 4 1/2” size, Regular- 6 1/2”, Large - 10” and Giant - 12” . While the 6 1/2” may be okay for robos and the 10” for dwarves, after using these wheels quite a bit, I would advise to go with the 12”- Giant size, no matter your hamster’s size. If you have a Syrian hamster you can go ahead and skip this wheel option! The largest size this wheel comes in is 9.5”, which is not suitable for a Syrian hamster. I would also not suggest it for a Chinese hamster. Dwarf hamsters (including robos, winter whites and Campbell’s) may proceed. Size: The Prevue Quiet Wheel comes in three sizes, Small (6”), Medium (8”) and Large (9.5”). I would only recommend the size Medium /8” for small robos and the size Large / 9 .5” for larger robos, Campbell’s or winter whites (but not for any Syrians, possibly a bit small for a Chinese hamster). Size small (6”) is too small for any type of hamster (and most rodents for that matter). You can also attach this wheel to the sides of a cage fairly easily, but I’ve had various success with this due to different construction on these wheels. Some of them work great with a wire cage, some end up creating a rattling noise with the bars. It’s hard to tell what you’re going to get until you have it in your hands.
