For example, when shooting from as close as 1 cm to the subject, a 1 mm subject can be magnified to up to 44 mm on the monitor. For me, it’s a great secondary camera to take places where I just don’t want to risk my Sony a7 III. I need to spend some more time learning it’s deeper functions, but that’s ok too.One thing that’s a bit annoying is that, while the camera as a whole is relatively indestructible, the screen is pretty easily scratched. That makes buying a screen protector at the same time as buying the camera fairly important.
Having an underwater camera with me while I was on a hike allowed me to get photos I just couldn’t get otherwise. This isn’t a river that anyone would go diving or snorkeling in, so the images are definitely one of kind (at least for me).Now if you're fine with using cameras with fixed focal length lenses like your iPhone, the SeaLife DC-2000 has much better IQ* than this Olympus or your iPhone. However it has a slow raw buffer, but it does have an excellent jpeg engine.
Being waterproof down to 15 metres makes the TG-6 ideal for capturing shots while holding the camera underwater. With people increasingly happy to rely on their smartphone for everyday snaps these days, if you see a point-and-shoot compact at all it’s likely to be one of two things: an instant camera that outputs Polaroid-style prints, or, as with the new Olympus TG-6, a toughened camera that you’d dare to use in scenarios where you wouldn’t otherwise risk your handset. In other words, there needs to be a good reason for its existence. The Olympus Tough TG-6 boasts an attractive mix of sporty and industrial design courtesy of visible faceplate screws, which should appeal to photographers and action junkies wanting the best of both those worlds.For those in the first group, the TG-6's auto mode can handle just about every situation, and its numerous scene modes are well organized. Going underwater? Just choose the 'fish' spot on the mode dial, where you'll find five choices that match the situation you're in. It is a shame that Olympus did not create a simplified version of its menu system for more novice users, who are likely to be overwhelmed by the options and organization. Overall, I found that the TG-6’s white balance was fairly accurate, even underwater. There wasn’t a lot of levels or curves adjustments I needed to make to get the image looking as it should. As the name implies, this is the sixth camera in the Tough TG series from Olympus. First released in 2019, it retains a formula that has remained basically the same since the TG-1 – pairing a 1/2.3-inch sensor with a 25-100mm equivalent lens, providing an imaging combination that isn't going to blow anyone away but works well enough for photography in the water and out.
Howard, please re-read my OP. Did I say anything about an iPhone? No. Your reading comprehension needs a lot of work. If you want a slow shutter speed to capture motion blur then you need to understand how to force the camera to produce a slow shutter speed. One thing I really don’t like about the TG-6, though, is how hard it is to get to the more advanced features. Even something as simple as switching from JPEG to RAW was esoteric – there was no way to figure it out without the manual. Then, once I did look it up, it didn’t work. I actually had to call customer service.Underwater mode enables you to take underwater pictures in appropriate settings by selecting a sub mode best suited for the subject or scene. The TG-6 camera is waterproof up to depths of 15 meters without a separate sold underwater housing. There are dedicated Macro and Underwater modes on the dial, and a large number of Scene modes too. You can capture images with a natural look, or with artistic filters applied. If you enable Raw capture, you can add filter effects after the fact, right in camera.
