About this deal

Not to be a grinch but like… Respectfully: I just didn’t care about their family traditions: cookie making, snowball fights, decorating, family photos, Christmas songs…… god I was bored 😪 (no offense) One year ago, recent Portland transplant Ellie Oliver had her dream job in animation and a Christmas Eve meet-cute with a woman at a bookstore that led her to fall in love over the course of a single night. But after a betrayal the next morning and the loss of her job soon after, she finds herself adrift, alone, and desperate for money. And this is it. This is my moment. I need to strike while she’s briefly filled with maternal pride and affection.

phoebe bridgers was name dropped once and taylor swift was name dropped like 5 times and there were some great t’is the damn season and all too well metaphors going on. WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU WRITE A WEBCOMIC ABOUT A RELATIONSHIP YOURE CURRENTLY IN WHEN THERES 200K ON THE LINE THAT COULD KEEP YOU FROM BEING HOMELESS Her claims of providing for my basic needs are greatly exaggerated. When I was twelve, I’d asked my mother for money for new art supplies. Linds hadn’t taken it well. Dev Deshpande has always believed in fairy tales. So it’s no wonder then that he’s spent his career crafting them on the long-running reality dating show Ever After. As the most successful producer in the franchise’s history, Dev always scripts the perfect love story for his contestants, even as his own love life crashes and burns. But then the show casts disgraced tech wunderkind Charlie Winshaw as its star. Giving this a 3 only because the author simply doesn't deserve a 2. But that's what my rating would be based on enjoyment.I would love to talk more about this book, but my review is getting long already. While the year is not up, this book might be in the running for my biggest surprise of the year. While I was hoping to enjoy this, I didn’t not expect this to be a 2022 fav. It is also that this book doesn’t seem to work for me on paper since it has some of my biggest pet peeves, but Cochrun sure pulled it off anyway. As I mentioned before, this is only her second book so it makes me really excited to think about what other books she might write in the future. If there was any question about it, I absolutely recommend this queer holiday romance. The anxiety extrapolates and catastrophizes all the way to its natural conclusion: if I’m late for work again, my trash heap of a life will finally be put in the compactor and crushed into a cube of steaming hot garbage once and for all. Found Family--Always welcomed, and I loved Ellie's found family complete with drunken grandmas and laminated activity schedules. Also the other friendships Ellie makes are wonderful and round out the family aspects. One thing to love about romances is there’s no spoiling the end, at least not in a general sense. We know these two queer women end up making it work and get their happily-ever-after, because otherwise it wouldn’t qualify for the genre. The joy in reading an awesome romance like this one is the journey along the way and the specific ways that the book explores familiar themes and tropes. In that way, Kiss Her Once for Me is a truly stellar example of not just a holiday romance or a queer romance, but of any kind of romance because it’s so good at playing with genre expectations and at building fully realized leads who have character arcs separate but complementary to the love story. Plus, have I mentioned it is really fun and really gay? i never want to read about someone's quarter-moon/half-moon smile or about smelling like bread again

I don’t let myself think about the brief moment last Christmas when I thought I’d found someone to ease the ache, a person to call home. Louise On “The Morning Show” Goes Gay Spy Mode " You couldn’t even bring yourself to say “Palestine” at any point and that speaks volumes. Also, Drew has written about…" Also.Also.Also: An Estimated 105,000 Trans Youth Live in States That Have Banned Gender-Affirming Care I’ve learned it’s possible to be so in love with an idea of something, you can be blinded to the reality. I can’t! It’s ridiculous! You cant be in love with someone you’ve known for a total of (…) Seven days? You can’t be in love with someone you’ve known for what amounts to a single week!” There is some heavy duty subject matter in the book, child abuse, mental health issues and LGBTQ phobia. But it was handled realistically and sensitively. The characters also felt very real to me, especially Ellie's mom. I loathed her. There was so much about Ellie's childhood and her mom that reminded me of my own. I could understand how easy it would be for her to attach herself to the Kim-Prescott family. this was such a messy, cute and fun romcom. it had so much depth, so much representation & diversity, amazing characters, such an interesting plot, holiday vibes and many taylor swift references. Ellie’s relationship with her abusive mum was definitely interesting. It shows that even though someone is obviously manipulative and draining, it can still be hard to cut them out of your life. Ellie was a decent protagonist. Her social anxiety was very well portrayed! That was definitely my favourite thing about this book! Has stomachaches just thinking about social situations, doesn’t leave the house unless necessary, never has plans, gets nervous even when hanging out with friends… It was very a realistic depiction of social anxiety!

I enjoyed this book a lot even though I have a very low tolerance for reading about 20-somethings who don’t have their lives together! It was fun and engaging, and the explorations of the main characters’ various traumas/issues and how they drove their behaviour and affected their relationships were nuanced and thoughtful. Although I also just finished Season of Love, which maybe did that a little better? It’s all a blur to me now. Use italics (lyric) and bold (lyric) to distinguish between different vocalists in the same song part Believe me, I tried to come up with reasonable theories for this mishap. The most logical one would be that the demi part was added later, either as a selling point or after The Charm Offensive became so popular. But the thing is, it is integrated into the story. It's not just the mc sprinkling it into one convo. It comes up several times, and the mc says time and time again that she's not this type of person, she doesn't go home with people after the first date, she doesn't have one night stands etc. Clearly, it is part of the conflict, so I doubt it was inserted only later.I don’t know if I’d strongly recommend this book since it had so many flaws, but I don’t regret reading this book. It will find an audience that loves it. I’m just not part of that audience. I was excited to read this novel, because the author's debut, The Charm Offensive, was one of my favourite reads last year. I didn't expect the demisexual rep there, and I resonated so much with it. I honestly didn't know this new book had demi rep too, and it seems that info was excluded from a lot of marketing posts too... I wonder why! I realize the point of showing Ellie's bio-family dynamic was to contrast it with something different and have something to compare to, but I didn't like her relationship with her mom AT ALL. I wondered from the beginning why she was being such a doormat and giving her mom the literal last dollar in her bank account, and I just couldn't connect with that part of the story. Thanks to the author, Atria Books and NetGalley for the ARC. I am voluntarily leaving my honest review* There is almost an inch of snow on the ground, so naturally, the entire city is on the verge of collapse.

If I lose my apartment, I will have to find housing in a city with a horrible housing crisis. And if I can’t find a new place to live… When would I have chopped wood before?’ she practically shouts… ‘I had a very privileged upbringing!’ A sparkling winter wonderland, quirky family traditions, and a messy 'love trapezoid' make the yuletide gay in this earnest queer rom-com... it's delightful to watch this clever spin on the fake dating trope unfold. This is a winner. - Publishers Weekly It’s not my fault you insisted on going to college forever and got fired from Lycra Studios,” she snaps.Overall, I wasn't overly in love with this one. I didn't really like any of the characters, maybe just Andrew's grandma, but that's it. I did enjoy the family Christmas traditions though. Fans of Alison Cochrun’s debut, The Charm Offensive, will love her new queer romance . . . . Read this sexy, insightful, and utterly charming book.” Classic romance set up (broke artist is offered chance to fake-marry rich boy who only gets his inheritance if he's married) but in this case the broke artist is still in love with her one night stand of a year ago, who turns out to be the rich boy's sister.
