About this deal

The ninth big screen adventure in the STAR TREK movie franchise comes to 4K Ultra-HD with HDR-10 and Dolby Vision, boldly remastered from the original film elements. When the crew of the Enterprise learn of a Federation plot against the inhabitants of a unique planet, Captain Picard begins an open rebellion. The four Star Trek: The Next Generation movies will be warping to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray in a 4-Film Set as well as individually on April 4. What’s great about the inclusion of both discs is that it helps future-proof the collection if you’ve yet to upgrade to 4K. Being able to enjoy the fully remastered Blu-ray films, which include a superb 7.1 Dolby TrueHD audio, while also getting the 4K versions of the film to also have on hand for whenever you do eventually upgrade is a win win all around. Paramount’s new 4K UHD release is a 2-disc set (UHD and Blu-ray). Each disc offers a simple menu interface featuring the theatrical poster artwork for the film. The 4K disc includes the following special features: is naturally occurring and organic. It is even and flattering, capturing a near perfect filmic look that dazzles in every shot. It's a healthier, more lifelike

is a revelation compared to its previous bout on HD, being bright, detailed, well coloured and retaining a good grain structure, the image has never looked better. The sound has a very light upgrade to Dolby TrueHD 7.1 (from 5.1) but is still a bit front heavy, though dialogue and effects are well mixed and there is good bass. All the extras are ported over, but sadly nothing new has been added. Space... the frontier, the continuing cinematic voyages of the starship Enterprise carry on with the Next Generation crew. Watch as they challenge Malcolm McDowell, the Swedish-sounding Borg, a rogue faction within Starfleet and ultimately Picard's clone. The films varied in quality from one to the next, some simply would have made better stand-alone episodes than feature films, but there are some incredibly memorable cinematic moments to enjoy. Star Trek: The Next Generation Motion Picture Collection It’s not a huge issue, as one probably won’t even notice most of the time — but some shots certainly feel “off-center” now because of these framing adjustments. Audio and text commentary is provided on the 4k Blu-ray Disc under the Extras tab. However, any other legacy content is included on the 2k Blu-ray Disc. Like the first-edition Original Series film Blu-rays, the 2009 editions of the four Star Trek: The Next Generation films were plagued with a heavy-handed use of digital noise reduction (DNR) treatments, artificial sharpening efforts (to restore detail erased by the DNR process), and odd color timing that — in some instances — drastically changed the look of the movies when compared to previous VHS, LaserDisc, and DVD home media releases.

Side guide

You’re right — the images with the review are completely unhelpful. It would have been better not to include them at all.

worries that the image might be substandard can cease. This is about as pristine as these original film elements allow. Grain is not only retained, but Lionsgate has informed us that Francis Ford Coppola’s B’Twixt Now and Sunrise Blu-ray, which is due to street on Blu-ray and Digital on 2/28, will include one special feature: Twixt: A Documentary by Gia Coppola. You can see the cover art below. The new editions of the Next Gen films can be found in one big four-movie box set, but they’re also available in individual 4K + Blu-ray releases, and well as in standalone Blu-ray-only releases (for those of you who haven’t make the leap to 4K at home just yet). All this is desperate when you consider the Trek royalty that penned it: Ronald D. Moore and Brannon Braga wrote the screenplay, and are acutely aware of its issues, but due to the timing involved, they were writing All Good Things at the same time, and were given no time to flesh out the Generations script as the release date was already set, and sadly this shows in the finished product. Likewise, Jerry Goldsmith didn’t return to score the film, it therefore has no overarching theme or that resonance of score, and this really matters. They even re-use film footage of the Bird of Prey’s destruction! At long last, the four Star Trek: The Next Generation films have finally received the much-needed remastering treatment, following the six Original Series movies which arrived in fancy new 4K editions in 2021 and in 2022.Naturally, all of these titles are to be considered unofficial until the studio makes its actual announcement, which we would expect to happen in the next few weeks.

Streaming rights come and go and vary by region, so the only surefire way to collect these movies in 4K to keep as your own is on disc. And at least for the US version of the set, it comes with a code for a digital copy of each movie, so you can have your handy digital version while also showing your support for the disc format. Available today While all of the other bonus features on the set are carried over from the previous Blu-ray editions ( fully detailed at the StarTrek.com announcement), the standard Blu-ray discs in this new collection appear to contain the newly-remastered picture — which is great for those of you who haven’t yet made the leap to 4K but are interested in the upgraded visuals on each film. The Star Trek Universe – A series of nine shorter featurettes that cover the remaining, outstanding areas of interest for the movie.

One thing worth noting: Neither the 4K/Blu-ray singles reviewed above or this new 4-Movie Collection include the Evolutions bonus disc found in the 2009 Star Trek: The Next Generation Movie Collection Blu-ray box, so you may wish to hang onto that disc if you have it. For the record, it featured: Hot on the heels of the breaking news about Star Trek: The Motion Picture — Director’s Edition getting an unexpected facelift to 4K, Paramount Home Entertainment has formally announced the heavily-rumored addition of the first four Star Trek films to hit the Ultra-HD format as well!
