About this deal

I felt like the anticipation for the war lasted the entire trilogy and only actually happened once I got 60% of the way into the third book....slow burn for the war, fast burn for Fin & Annika with their courtship/relationship status. Unfortunately, the cozy feeling begins to seep away like molasses in a sieve the further in you go. Guys. I think the ghost of that witch is haunting this house!" (D'ya think so? Coming from the guy who, it is exposed, doesn't read books)

Especially egregious was the final scene where they chose to play audio clips of "clues" the characters gave throughout the movie over and over again, I guess to be sure they beat it into our heads what exactly happened. The clips were blatantly obvious, and I don't think most people would have needed help to figure out the ending, which was yet again another cliche. I thought it was weird that Hannah had to work with the guys who sexually harassed her, and then they all became best friends. This has been a fun series. The writing might not be the most polished, but I was able to get past that and enjoy the story. Thankfully, there was less of Fin being referred to as "the red head" in book 3 - that got really annoying in the second book. The characters in the movie were fairly average, albeit a bit on the generic side, in terms of how characters tend to be in movies such as these. Hardly memorable characters by any means, but the actors and actresses did good jobs with what they had to work with. WE ARE LOCATED ON THE CORNER OF ROUTE 114 & ESSEX STREET IN DOWNTOWN SALEM, 16 MILES NORTH OF BOSTON.How lovely, to read a romance with a male protagonist! Most of these romance novels speak in a woman's voice, but The House Witch homes in on Finlay Ashowan, newly made royal chef, who is also hiding his enormous talents as a house witch. Offering a keenly feminist/humanist perspective in a male is not merely refreshing; it highlights a lot of what's wrong with men today: first, in the depiction of three knights, boors who are introduced bringing Fin's kitchen maid to tears every day, on up to a visiting earl who delights in the subtleties of tormenting his sister into obedience without anyone taking notice. And the brothel is not even the only part where he gets a little gay just out of nowhere. He kept trying to bait Mr. Howards by comming onto him knowing full well it was not well recieved. It felt unnecesary and dragged out. While it might had been funny one time, this grew old fast. My point is that for all he complained about why people thought he was gay he sure goes out of his way to make people think he is in this book.

Wasnt constantly reminded that Fin is a redhead. I get it, he has red hair. That point was already driven home in book 1, now here in book 2 it feel like trying to hammer an already hammered nail into a wall. The person doing the work would probably get a headache, and you know what? as a reader, I did.If atleast 3 characters in here showed some level of atleast emotional maturity, or intelligence, or intellect, or even just basic thought and understanding. The kingdom of Daxaria felt less like a kingdom and more like an unorganized circus. Fin is a Housewitch and a cook, who just wants to do his new job at the palace and be left alone in peace. He doesn't want anyone to get close enough to learn his secrets, but try as he might, people just keeping coming into his kitchen! Everyone from royalty to nobility to staff just keep popping in, and the knife over there that's chopping food on it's own? Not happening! The broom sweeping up without human assistance? Nope! But you need someone to put pig-headed Knights in their place? Fin is definitely your guy! I was lured in by the cozy cover only to discover repetitive description, wooden dialogue, no pacing and a main character so bland that generic isekai protagonists seem full of depth and complexity. The completely unnecessary paragraphs of exposition are particularly painful too. The romance/love interest has no chemistry with the main character either.

This final book wasn't as cozy as the first two, which makes sense due to the high stakes of the war coming to fruition but it made me miss Fin in the kitchen with his aides and all the banter. Things really start heating up for Fin, his kitchen aides, the royal family, Annika, his mother, and the country of Daxaria, and not just because Fin's fire witch father comes to visit!A heartwarming and humorous blend of fantasy, romance, and mystery featuring a witch with domestic powers and the royal household he serves . . . dinner.
