About this deal

I don't fully understand what all the midis are capable of, cuz I can't imagine the 37 would be able to change all the knobs on the synths. Arturia have expanded the KeyStep to give you the KeyStep 37; a new take on the popular MIDI keyboard controller giving you more control with added features and great response. responsive, dynamic, expanded in every direction to encourage musical exploration - the controller that's built to inspire. Four new knobs with an LED screen can be found in the centre of the KeyStep 37's control panel giving you hands-on, instant access to great new tools.

For straightforward interfacing with retro MIDI and CV gear, this is way more exciting than a boring interface/control box, which may end up costing more anyway. As far as I can see there are very few compact, three octave MIDI controllers around, and most smaller controllers have those silly tiny keys whereas this has somewhere a little larger which makes playing much nicer. You would generally be requested to enter the supplied activation code to activate the software and allow you to use the software on your specified computer or laptop.

Your sequenced notes are shown on the colourful LED strip above the keyboard - sequencing has never been this easy. Any instrument suddenly becomes dynamic and controllable in the same way as stringed instruments like a guitar or harp. It doesn’t have CV outs or a sequencer but instead goes to town with real-time MIDI control knobs/pads for detailed control of DAW plug-ins.Creating arpeggios is a breeze, helped along by the keyboard LEDs to provide a flashy visual representation of what’s going on. The sequencer primarily uses step‑entry mode, although there is a live record/replace mode which quantises to the nearest step.

Wondering if the sequencer in the Syntakt would be a better option for synth modules down the line vs spending the extra money on the KS PRO. The Arturia KeyStep 37 expands on the original KeyStep giving you more control over more features going beyond a 64-step sequencer, arpeggiator and MIDI keyboard. This creates a random note pattern that repeats instead of randomising each cycle, and has a specific length that you can set up to 64 notes. Add a wealth of creative chord, scale and MIDI functions and an expanded interface with tactile new controls. The Arturia Keystep 37 is a 37 note MIDI controller keyboard paired with Arturia's critcaly acclaimed sequencing toolset.

In 2020, Arturia added an all-singing, all-dancing keyboard-come-sequencer to the line-up, in the multi-track KeyStep Pro .

Similarly to the KeyStep Pro, the KeyStep 37 also features four encoders which may be mapped to four banks of MIDI CCs, meaning that 16 parameters are available within quick reach. Honestly I didn't really dig in to the sequencer and arpeggiator a lot as I bought this mostly for playing the keys, but from what I have explored they work perfectly well and the sequencer seems excellent. On the KeyStep 37, Chord Memory even has time-based strum effects, simply select the number of notes per chord and adjust velocity sensitivity - the harder you hit, the more notes you’ll hear. Experiment with Chord mode, where you can select from 12 contrasting chord variants and strum effects. The 37-note keyboard gives you a 3-octave range which you can perform on with the scale of your choice when using Scale mode.
