About this deal

So the Olympus Tough TG-6 is weak under extreme lighting conditions, but so are many other cameras. For many of us, high ISO with low noise is the last frontier on the technological side of photography. Obviously SCUBA will require a more serious camera. For casual snorkeling you can get by with a phone. Normally, you need a dedicated macro lens if you want to take close-up, macro, or microscopic photos. That means a financial investment and another lens in your bag. But the TG-6 has this capability built-in. The close-up function is worth the cost of the camera. Get in, the water’s nice! Highlights include new underwater modes, more versatile macro photo options as well as a better monitor with improved resolution.

For those venturing under the waves the underwater modes now boast a fifth option – Underwater Microscope – that fills out the close-up options. You can also take advantage of the 1cm close focusing distance outside of the macro modes, and it really shines.

At the 2x zoom (50mm equivalent) setting, the maximum aperture has dropped to f/3.2. The resolution drops a little bit, to 1,936 lines. You can stop down to f/4.5 and get a little more detail (2,013 lines). There's an f/13 setting, again, it's just the f/4.5 aperture with the dimming ND filter added into the optical path. Pop Art (I, II), Soft Focus, Pale&Light Color (I, II), Light Tone, Grainy Film (I, II), Pin Hole (I, II, III), Diorama (I, II), Cross Process (I, II), Gentle Sepia, Dramatic Tone (I, II), Key Line (I, II), Watercolor (I, II), Vintage (I, II, III), Partial Color (I, II, III) The great-value price includes a six-month warranty extension 5 if new owners register their camera at www.my.olympus.eu. All of the above suggests not only a useful camera for taking shots in situations that you might feel are too risky for your smartphone, but the Olympus Tough TG-6 is also a capable travel camera, with the ability to shoot Raw files as well as the standard JPEGs. But you know it is a 1/2.3" sensor and these cameras always will be you and you haven't managed to PASS the review.

it little matters what their prowess or dependability is...but . as it happens at low isos the iphone takes nice shots and has nice color too , but i will never use one as i will not switch to that platform either.... i use a camera to take my photographs , not a phone The TG-6 has become our dedicated “leave it laying around the house” camera. It’s so small that it doesn’t bother my wife. It’s there when we need it. And, it’s so tough we don’t mind the kids using it. I love the surrealness of the underwater landscapes of a river I thought I knew really well. Now I know it even better. It's tough – but is it good enough?

The TOUGH TG-6 inherits the fast continuous shooting modes of its predecessor with a 20fps speed plus the 10fps Pro Capture feature. All the continuous shooting options fix focus on the first frame. Pro Capture buffers the first five frames when you half press the shutter which provides you with half a second of action prior to the decisive moment when you fully depress the shutter release. As before you can shoot RAW in the sequential and Pro Capture modes. Above is a 15-frame segment from the middle of a 50-frame sequence I shot in Pro Capture mode.

An evening adventure used to mean hauling a heavy bag filled with gear. I never knew which gear I would need for sure, so I always brought too much. Eventually, I just stopped going on spontaneous adventures because it became too much of a chore. The Olympus Tough TG-6 replaces all that stuff I used to haul around. Gear is no longer the hindrance it used to be. The technical specs The Xiaomi 12T Pro offers a whopping 200MP main camera, but how does this perform, and do the other cameras deliver? Joshua Waller puts it through its paces. With the TG-6, you can get insanely close and discover the mystery and beauty in the fine details of everyday objects. You’ll be exploring the world in a way you haven’t done since science class. Pro Capture mode saves photos before and after the shutter release is pressed, to help you capture the right moment

The Olympus Tough TG-6 is the company's sixth-generation premium underwater camera. It features a 12 Megapixel sensor, 4X optical zoom lens, numerous sensors and, of course, serious protection against the elements. Key specifications

With its Tough performance and its high-quality lens, the TG-6 gives you the freedom to explore underwater worlds to a depth of 15 m. Utilising the wide range of accessories, you can go as deep as 45 m. One of the main reasons that the Olympus TG-5 topped our list of the best waterproof cameras was its impressive array of features for a tough cam.Recently superseded by the XP140, the XP130 is far easier on the wallet than the TG-6, although its spec sheet isn't quite as strong. You do get waterproofing down to 10m and 1.8m drop-proofing, but image quality and battery life go some way to prove the adage about getting what you pay for. Putting the camera up against a high-end smartphone will likely result in very similar images – indeed, sometimes the smartphone’s computational wizardry might even give it the edge. Nevertheless, there will be plenty of scenarios that you wouldn’t be able to take the smartphone to in the first place – diving 15 metres underwater, for example – and smartphones also generally can’t take great macro shots without additional lenses.
