About this deal

Lots of you are probably wondering if this lens focuses internally or not. And yes, indeed. It doesn’t elongate when focusing. Interestingly, the OM System 90mm f/3.5 surprised me in remaining quite sharp even at narrower apertures. Diffraction still caused some loss in sharpness, of course, but my impression is that the only sharpness loss I saw at these apertures was from diffraction. The lens didn’t seem to contribute any additional issues of its own. You’ll see in a moment how much sharper the 90mm f/3.5 is compared to my M.Zuiko 60mm f/2.8 even when both were are narrow apertures of f/16 and f/14. The OM System 90mm f3.5 Macro IS Pro proves that the Micro Four Thirds system still has clout in an era of full-frame mirrorless. This macro lens does what a full-frame camera can’t do — use autofocus at a 4x equivalent macro. The 90mm is the kind of landmark lens that may even be big enough to sway some photographers over to the Micro Four Thirds system. M. Zuiko Digital ED 90mm F3.5 Macro IS PRO: the ultimate field macro lens for the seasoned professional and macro curious alike; a class-leading lens built by OM SYSTEM to provide an incredible outdoor macro photography experience. Maximum image magnification 2x, 4x when paired with the optional MC-20 2x teleconverter, delivering flexibility for even the most extreme macro adventures sbzine: No, that does not happen, because you can and will adjust the ISO to what you need on both systems. On FF, that's two stops more—without getting behind in anything compared to MFT, not shutter speed, not image quality. Like always, when you do need more, not less depth of field, it's just a draw, though—FF loses its sensor size advantage for image quality.

Seems you still don't quite get the concept. If the 5MP image contains all the detail that is resolvable than it doesn't matter if you throw 20MP at it. The 20MP result will look the same The E-M1X’s firmware update takes longer to complete versus other OM-D camera models. Please note the following:The Google Pixel 6 may not be the latest Google smartphone any more, but it might still be the best value When you take the price and size difference into consideration, then it’s quite disappointing to see that the new lens resolves even less lpmm. The teleconverter seems to be as effective as cropping in.

When OM System first teased about the 90mm, I was itching to try it out. After trying a 2x macro manual focus lens, 1:1 autofocus macro lenses don’t feel that macro-ey anymore. But a 4x equivalent macro that can still autofocus? The 90mm sounds like a dreamy lens that’s able to achieve what few other lenses can. And, for the most part, that’s true. Focus clutch on my 17mm f1.2 Pro, 12-40 f2.8 Pro and 8-25 F4 Pro all work on my Panasonic camera bodies, and they are old camera bodies (GM1/GM5). You initially wrote: “Thanks for the review. the measured values regarding resolution do actually contradict your conclusion that the 90mm is sharper than the 60mm.” A full-frame equivalent 4x magnification is ludicrous – most dedicated macro lenses max out at 1x magnification. Other more extreme macro lenses from the likes of quirky lens specialist Laowa are manual focus-only lenses, but the OM 90mm macro lens utilizes a powerful autofocus system. If your object is smaller - say, 12x18mm - it will be 1/4 of your FF sensor. So only 5MP of the 20MP sensor. Lenstip should not be taken that seriously. Their extreme opinions (praise or criticism) and overuse of charts give them an air of authority, but they largely ignore practical aspects such as rendering, real-life usability or sample variation. In this case, I doubt that they tested this lens at macro distances, which is how it will be / should be used.

Did I Buy the Lens?

According to CIPA standards. When attached to OM-1, with yaw and pitch applied to camera, half-press IS set to Off.
