I'm so glad I read this book when my son was only a few months old, I'm sure I'll be able to deal with him in a more calm and patient way for the rest of his life. My anger would rise; I would feel the futility of any attempt to salvage myself, and also the inequality between us: my needs always balanced against those of a child, and always losing.
